Default First time being vandalized

hey guys. so today is the first time i have been vandalized in almost 2 years of ownership. its pretty depressing. so i was coming home from going out with the girlfriend and i'm sitting at a stop light. the car behind me wants to take a right. so i inch foward so the car can get by and all of a sudden BAM egg all the hell over the passenger side. so i gun it in the opposite lane and block them off. it appears to be 3 teenage kids who look like they are crapping their pants. they drive around me on the curb. i take down the plate number and model of car and continue to follow them while i call the police. they tell me to quit following them and come to the station so i can fill out a report. i get there and they take some pictures and tell me to go wash it off before it causes serious damage to the paint. after washing it off and examining it it looks like there is a (hard to describe with words) rippling mark about the size of a quarter where the egg shell broke. i didnt notice anything else. it looks like someone threw a rock into a pond and it makes bigger circles as it goes out you know? anyways cops take a picture of what i can find and we go in to fill out a report. the officer comes back into the room and sadly informs me that while he has the address of the plates he cant continue on with anything unless we can positively identify the Egg thrower. well shit i dont know who threw the egg and the gf does either, i just know it came from that car bc it was the only car around. so they pretty much sent me on my merry way with no help making sure those kids dont get away with it. if anyone can run a plate for me with an address and send it to me in a PM it would be much appreciated.

For future reference, next time, lie. Even if you don't know who did it, always say the driver. They are much easier to trace. Since cops have no proof of the passengers (you can't identify them) the driver can always be traced. Lying is wrong, but to hell with these scumbags.

Can't the police at least give you the name of the owner of the car? File a small claims suit against them.

Just tell them it came from the driver. Ultimately, the driver is responsible for the actions of his passengers; be it open container, no seat belt, or egging.

A few years back my family was quite involved with the local baseball association. We had a pretty good setup with a large "clubhouse" building with multiple smaller boardrooms, a fully equipped kitchen/snack bar, huge meeting room, basement and equipment storage, etc. We also had a video surveillance system with interior and exterior cameras that one captured 3 kids trying to break in the front door by kicking, ultimately smashing the reinforced window. They never made it in but there was hundreds of dollars worth of damage and upon reviewing the tapes, an association member recognized the kids.

When this was reported to the police along with the names of the kids, the police told us that because we didn't know which kid's kick did the damage, none of them could be charged with anything. Ridiculous. Aside from a talking-to by police the kids got

Why do we protect criminals? There are times when guilty by association should be okay if the innocent parties don't want to turn in the perpetrators. in.

Sorry to hear you had this happen, my old black civic was hit but an egg once and the impact of the shell does create those rings that you spoke of. It sucks and repaint was necessary to fix it for me.
