[QUOTE=Saki GT,Mar 26 2008, 07:43 AM] Can't the police at least give you the name of the owner of the car?

Agreed. You should contact your insurance company and give them the plate number and the police report number.

Let them deal with it, you do pay them to handle stuff like this.

I work in Juvenile law (in Oregon) and see no reason why the officer couldn't make contact with the driver and press them to either admit to throwing the egg or identifying who did. You'd be surprised what some nitwit kid will give up when an armed/uniformed officer is at their door. An officer does not need probable cause simply to speak to someone.

Thanks for the tips guys. As of now the officer was supposed to do his "scare tactic" last night and if i dont receive a phone call from him sometime this afternoon i'm going to leave him a message asking to call me back and let me know how things went. Other than that all he told me was the police report will be ready in a week. I'm going to my local body shop here in town to see what it will cost to get her fixed up. Its not like super bad or anything but its there and i know its there and i know what its from and that bothers the hell out of me. what drives kids these days to do crap like this. hell the worst thing i did when i was in high school was protect my property. my mailbox got smashed 4 nights in a row by the same ford ranger truck with the same kid swinging the bat out of the back. so the 5th night i filled the mailbox with cement. kid fell out of the truck, broke his arm, cop had a good laugh, kid deserved it. its too bad what kids these days are coming to.

I believe that the DMV can look up any license plate for you for a small charge. Not 100% but I would look into it.

Ouch. Sorry to hear about the vandalism, and here's hoping that these idiots have to pay for their own stupidity.

You've handled the situation much better than I probably would've. If somebody would've done that to my car, the cops would be after me for a much more serious offense...
