what drives kids these days to do crap like this. hell the worst thing i did when i was in high school was protect my property. my mailbox got smashed 4 nights in a row by the same ford ranger truck with the same kid swinging the bat out of the back. so the 5th night i filled the mailbox with cement. kid fell out of the truck, broke his arm, cop had a good laugh, kid deserved it. its too bad what kids these days are coming to.
Wow I've never heard of being egged while actually in the car. Good luck with everything.
This concerns me as well since when I do buy my s2000 in the next few months (hopefully), it will sadly need to be on the street for a while. The city I live in is relatively safe and quiet...but boring. So my civic I drive right now has been the victim of eggings a number of times.
When I was in high school my friends and I would do 'power runs'. We would drive around and passenger would sneak out to the side of a house and trip the master fuse to shut the power off to the whole house. We would load a car up with 5 people and shut down whole courts at a time. Seems idiotic now, but back then it was hilarious...especially during christmas.

I used to egg all kinds of things, but not really cars. There is just something wrong with that. $300 fix makes it a felony if I recall.... I got charged with a felony destruction of property because it was over $200, same goes with theft.... at least in VA.
Long story with the whole me getting charged, it was mostly by association and we got charged with stuff the employees did when they found the situation.
Back on topic, there are a lot of serious things that kid is guilty of, but you need proof. The burden of proof is on you, not them. If you can't prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the kid did it, it doesn't matter. Civil court? I know it's a stretch.
BTW: I agree with you, if it happened to me I'd be the one in trouble. Sorry for what happened.

I had a girl open her door into my rear fender at a party one night. The estimate I got was $683. The police did literally nothing other than ask her questions and say I had no proof that it was her. Even though I had a witness who saw and heard her door hit my car, and the dent was the same height from the ground as the longest part of her door, I got squat. Hope you have better luck than I did.

If you bring a civil suit than the burden is much lower (clear and convincing evidence). This basically means that it is substantially more likely than not that the event occurred as you said it did (i.e. kid X threw the egg at the car, causing the damage).
Sorry that happened to you and good luck getting it resolved.
Hate that happened. It seems to me police just dont want to deal with the paperwork. Back in April I went to a park (1/2 mile from where I lived). I left my wallet in the center console (I had a Ford Ranger, No I did not go after ANY mailboxes). I came back to my truck, went home, grabbed my wallet and noticed I didnt have any cash. I walked around to my passenger side where they had shoved a screwdriver into the keyhole. I went and grabbed my GLOCK, called the police, went back to the park. I am on the Phone with the police when I notice two black guys messin with a car (one looks like a look out the other messing with a car) They look at me hop into the car and drive off. I'm telling the police this but because I didn't see them break into my car they wouldnt send a cop out. Got my report Via E-mail. Sucks. They got $25. I would have GIVEN them 25 damn dollars
BTW, the one guy was "fumbling" with the car BESIDE the one they drove off in.
