Default Fishtail

Hi,

I was the first person at the light and I was going to do a U-turn. The light turns green and I start to turn...half way through the turn, I shift into 2nd and then the back fishtails...goes on for about 5 sec. I pushed the clutch in and tried to straighten it out. I didn't want to hit the car next to me. The ground wasn't wet, but it was cold outside. It was about 30 degrees. I drove the car for a mile before I did the U-turn. I tire pressure was ok...rear had a 3-4 pounds difference. Maybe the tires weren't warmed up. I have 1cm of tread left on the rear.

yup don't shift during a turn. by doing so, you unload the weight off the rear wheels which causes you to lose traction.

So people say the S2000 doesn't have any TQ

Shifting into 2nd gear is putting instant TQ on the rear wheels. I've done this myself, (I was down-shifting).

I guess, any shift and/or power on in mid turn should be cafefully done and U-turn is about as severe a turn as you can get.

Also summer tires + cold temp do not go together.

Did you rev-match when you put the car into second or just pop out the clutch, that could cause you to slip the rear. Plus, the stock tires aren't too great in the cold.

I don't have stock tires on right now...The front tires are Potenza S-03 225/40zR18...the rear ones are Michelin 255/35z18Y. I should put on the stock rims before my wheels get messed up from the salt.

So many people don't get this.

Also, why did you need to shift into 2nd during a u-turn?
