Default Fixing bent tonneau cover?

So I recently purchased a low-mileage 2005 S2000; the car is a cream puff with 22K miles and all-original.

That's great, but unfortunately the OEM tonneau cover was left wrapped in plastic from the dealership and never used. Because of this, it was bent in some interesting ways that now make it impossible to fit to the car (the main issue is the area that is supposed to be bent at a 90 degree angle to slide between the seats and folded top is almost flat, so I need to find a way to get that 90 degree bend back).

As such, I've been trying to bend it back into shape for a week using 40lb. bags of cat litter, 25 lb. free weights, etc. etc. and it sure is a resiliant little bugger! Has barely made a difference.

Has anyone else ever attempted to fix the shape of their tonneau? If so, how did you do it and (most importantly) did it work? I like the clean look of the car with the cover on and would enjoy being able to actually use it

Thanks for any advice! I searched but didn't come up with anything.

mine is never used so it is misshapen as well. i don't care, but i was thinking about it, since it's plastic finding a way to heat it up, like leaving it in the hot sun for a day, might make it pliable enough to find it's original shape?

sounds like your best bet, or maybe in your attic if you have one, 90 deg plus will soften it up good.

DO NOT use a hair dryer or any localized heat

leave it in the sun for an hour and it should fit. Now, if it still does not fit, you may need new top straps from Modify to hold the top down better. That was my problem.

Thanks for the input guys--I tried leaving it in the sun for two days and it didn't seem to make much difference...it's a very tough material as you know. The issue is simply with the shape of the tonneau cover, not the height of the folded top.

I'll keep working at it I suppose...any other ideas? Feel free to let me know!

I managed to get the cover on mine once. Never bothered again. Agreed the cover does keep the dust off the inside of the roof when it's down but still still ain't worth the trouble.

There's an aftermarket fabric cover that seems to be a better idea. Doesn't look as good. of course.

For what the covers seem to go for, might just comb the classifieds for a new to you one.

Bay area sun is not going to cut it. You need serious sun. Keep doing what you are doing and wait for summer. Take it to the valley or Sacramento and heat it up.

Haha, thanks again!

I'd be interested in checking out the aftermarket tonneau cover mentioned--any leads?
