Default Flat tire!!!!!

I got a flat tire today at my buddy's house!!! I ran over a small nail. I've only had my car for about 4 weeks, but I am very impressed with it. The tool compartment is very nice and I was suprised to see flares in there!! Do they actually come with flares??

P.S. S2K's look very funny with a donut spare!!!

If you're going to get a flat, it should be on the front. If it's on the rear, then you have to swap a front tire with that rear and put the donut on the front. Pain in the ass.

Uh-oh, you may have already caused permanent damage to the differential. I would not drive the car anymore until you swap a front wheel to the rear, then place the spare on the front.

Well the dealer should have explained it all to you, and..well... you could have double check the manual just to be sure... that assumes it came with one of course. If you bought it used, which I would guess you did, because they don't come with flares, it may not have been in the car.

You may want to change the diff fluid and check it for metal filings.

I was wondering about that too? The issue is supposed to be about running two tires of different diameters on a limited slip differencial. You'll have the mechanism working against the different rotation rates of the unequal size tires. That's why the manuals usually state a maximum allowable speed (usually around 50 mph) and maximum distance (maybe 50 to 60 miles?) you can travel with the compact spare tire mounted. As long as you don't exceed these numbers you shouldn't be doing any untoward damage to the differential.

Of course, in a perfect world, it's better to swap a front tire to back and run the spare on the front because you don't ever expose the differencial to the stress.

FWIW!

Straight from my 2000 model year owner's manual, pg. 213......" The size difference may also cause damage to the rear differential, so do not mount the compact spare on the rear. If either rear tire goes flat, remove the front tire on that same side, mount the compact spare tire on the front, then mount the front tire on the rear."

Just so we're clear.

BTW, the first flat I had I did the same thing you did. Oops. No worries for mine after 70k+ miles now.
