Yeah, dealing with idiots and insurance companys sucks. The day after buying my 06 350Z someone hit the rear of the car in the parking lot. First time I had driven it anywhere. No note of course.
About $2K in damage.
My insurance didn't raise my rates, but they do consider it a collision and I had to pay my deductable.
Also, they will definitely put it on your record so if you try to change insurance it will show as a claim.
I have State Farm by the way.

I don't know about your state but in Virginia, if it's a hit and run, the deductable is $200 no matter how high your regular deductables are.
It's the state law. I know because I got hit and run before too.

I like in Virginia as well. I have a $100 deductable so I wasn't aware of this law, but if I ever raise my deductable this is good information.

Yea someone backed into my S when it was parked. I got the trunk, passenger side taillight and passenger rear quarter panel replaced at honda with some touch up in some areas. It was the price of a used car.

Damn sorry to hear that. I had similar problems just finally getting around to getting it fixed.

If it's just body panels, shed a tear or two and then get past it. It always hurts a little more if our car is relatively new. My last three incidents included a hit and run, a rear-ender(my car) and a collision of my vette into the side of another auto in which the driver pulled onto a main throughfare in front of me right after a rain.
I was never charged in any of these incidents but it does point out that regardless of how careful or how good a driver you consider your self to be, something like this is almost guaranteed to happen eventually.
Within a couple of days when you know the damage is being tended to by people you trust you will begin to relax and realise truly how common this situation really is.
Assuming no frame damage, there can actually be some benefits. Perhaps you needed a new paint job anyway or perhaps you were always wondering about your alignment. Even with minor frame damage , my bodyshop man states that most frames are not absulute spot on from the factory but will be when he's finished. I don't know how true that last statement is but it is very reassuring when your beauty is sitting there in front of you in a hundred pieces.
There is every reason to hope and believe that when you do get your car back, it will seem and hopefully feel brand new. Good luck

Oh btw, do anybody have Unitrin insurance. If the insurance write out the check, do they write it to me or the shop that does the body work?

So, you are publicly posting that you are considering insurance fraud? Nice. Thanks for driving up everyone else's rates.

If you owe on the car, the check will be written to the shop doing the work.
If you can repair the car for $400, this is what I'd do. No claim against your insurance this way which could go up.
