I guess it depends on the insurance company, but mine will give me a check for the amount the adjustor says the damage is for and I can get it fixed whever I want.

I think the check will have both your name and the body shops name on it.

I still owed.
They even let me purchase aftermarket parts to replace some of the stock parts as long as the prices were close.
I got a big front mount intercooler and all the piping replaced on my Evo because the stock one had a hole in it and the price for the stocker was $$$.

well the appraiser came out and estimated the damage at around $1300+ while the Honda dealership quoted me at around $1700. I am going to some local AutoBody shop today and see how much they quote me for. Let just say all my quotes are rated over the appraisal of the appraiser, would the appraiser give me more according to the auto shops. I'm not really familiar with this process. I do not want to fork out any money that for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The best way to do it is to take your car to the shop of your choice and let the shop haggle with the insurance co.

Yeah, and usually the insurance company has shops that they recommend and will take the shops word for whatever cost to repair.

sorry i didnt read the rest of the thread so iono if this is mentioned.

this is a little piece of information that i found out today:
usually if you get hit by a car and the driver runs off and you didnt get license plates, you'll get a point if you report this to your insurance company and claim it. BUT if your car was hit and run while it was parked, then apparently you dont get points for that and they'll just fix it, all you have to pay is the deductible for a collision repair.

i just came from my insurance today, i'm still trying to resolve crap with them. anyway, hope this helps. you might want to check with your insurance company first though, coz every company is different. this is how my insurance company does it.
