I know most Texans on this board run without the plate; I admire your chutzpa. I guess I don't have the stones to do it, because, sooner or later I would be stopped for some infraction (not necessarily the plate) and get busted for no plate as well. Hopefully, the bill now before the Texas house (I think) will get rid of the front plate.

By the way, joe_s2k, was the $100+ fine just for the plate or were you speeding as well?

For those who don't know the story, my car was vandalised, so to cheer myself up I ordered some subtle vanity plates (SRS-02K), and the front plugs with the intention of leaving the front plate off.

When the plates came in I drove to the motor registry and began removing my rear plate. Suddenly my car lurched towards me. Some doofus had backed into the front of it. Fortunately he hit the number plate and it was bent and there was only a little scratch on the bumper.

I told the guy he should put a sparkler on top of his car, 'cause if he was going to drive it like a bumper car it may as well look like one.

I also decided that if a front plate was going to protect the front of the car from the sort of morons on the roads around here then it was there to stay.

I'm shocked that nobody has mentioned the second best reason for not running a front plate (first reason is they're damn ugly). A front license plate is must a giant reflector for radar. I'll gladly pay risk the $25 fine to reduce the chance of the speeding ticket I'll get (well okay more likely a beating and jail) for driving the way I like. And for the rear plate, a polarized cover is a necessity.

Lvs2k,

The DPS Trooper said that he noticed the front plate missing and gave me a ticket. He was pissed because he also said that knew I was speeding but couldn't get a lock on me. It was $100 for just the missing front plate.

I've got some other stupid tickets.

Radio too loud while cruising Westheimer. (Houston)
Window tint too dark. (Smithville)
Tailgaiting an 18-Wheeler while going uphill. (A&M)

lvs2k,
Do you know what bill that is which is going to eliminate the front tag in TX? I want to call all my state reps and flood them with email to make sure that bill goes through!

I just went to my first group run in Austin this past weekend and everyone looked at my front tag and said "You gotta get rid of that".

Well, I'm taking it off tomorrow morning.

NO FRONT PLATE!! ACK!!

I met Brad the first time about a year in the burbs and we took some great shots...imagine how much better this would have been if Scarlet didn't have that hideous plate on her pretty face.

And look at this! Johnny Law telling us to not park like...no tickets for anything, including for not having a plate! I have never gotten a ticket for it, but a couple have been issued to me while my car was parked downtown someplace. Screw it, it's a 25 dollar fine, a small price to pay!
