Front License Plates?
Hot damn! I love the Johny Law series
You got a great collection Greg.
The other day I finally removed the front plate on my blue S2k and it looks a lot better IMO. Except for that darn condenser thingy. Must paint it out.

j-s2k, the front license plate bill is HB 535 first introduced in the 1999 session. For more information go to:

I saw a neat modification of the front plate which arguably complies with the law and also looks good.
The owner bent the top and bottom of the plate so that only the numbers and letters were visible...it looked like a European plate...and then he mounted it in the middle on the bottom of the bumper.
It actually looks good and doesn't ruin the lines like the normal set up does.

My friend has a 95 Viper RT/10 and has his plate attached to the front windshield with 2 suction cups... it works well because the RT/10 has a fairly upright windshield, just like the S2000.
I dont run my front plate, but here in Oregon I cant go a day without seeing some foolish and blatant breach of the law... cars with clear turnsignals, smoked LP covers, etc.
I mean its one thing to have NO front plate. ALL states require atleast a back one. And if the rear plate is obscured, whats wrong with my running a clean rear plate and NO front plate.
The only thing is that they cant nab you with photoradar easily...
As far as I am concerned, a vehicle like a Lincoln Navigator (saw this the other day) that was black and had both his front and rear plate under smoked covers...
How is this ANY worse than my not having a front plate? I pulled up behind him and could hardly read his plate.
I just figure that if a cop has nothing better to do than stop me for no front plate, fine. I'll tell him I bought the car used (I did) and there was no front plate.

I'm thinking of removing the plate by summer and going front-plate-less.

I know most Texans on this board run without the plate; I admire your chutzpa. I guess I don't have the stones to do it, because, sooner or later I would be stopped for some infraction (not necessarily the plate) and get busted for no plate as well. Hopefully, the bill now before the Texas house (I think) will get rid of the front plate.
By the way, joe_s2k, was the $100+ fine just for the plate or were you speeding as well?

mns2k,
Bummer! Thanks for the update. Maybe if enough people contacted our State Reps they could bring it back to life
I'm sure this is something, even the Miata, Corvette, etc.. clubs would sign up for. Maybe I sould find all the sportcar boards and post a request to organize a signature drive!
