Default Frustration with hardtop.

I have had my car for 6 months. Six weeks ago my HT came in. It was rattling and very noisy so I took the car back to the dealership. They cured the problems 90 % of the way. Two weeks ago it rains like crazy and there is a decent leak at the top of the driver's side window. Yesterday I dropped the car off. Today I picked it up and the rattles are back as strong as ever. I have not checked on the leak yet. When the car was in the shop the dealer called Honda Tech Line. They suggested installing some foam tape which they did. My paperwork also notes that the Tech Line indicated some seepage very normal.

I can not believe that Honda would consider a leak as very normal.

I do not want leaks or rattles.

What have you done for these issues ? What should I do ?

I bought the car and HT from the same dealer. They have been very nice to me. I think the problem is that I am in Tampa, FL and most people do not buy HT's down here so there is little experience.

Leaking I think would be bad....mine creaks now because of the new suspension....I could probably fix it by adjusting it better but not a big deal. Usually I don't hear the creaking for the engine, but it's still somewhat rare. Only on crappy roads.

Should not leak, creak or rattle at all - mine doesn't. Needs proper alignment and no loose fasteners.

An occational creak or squeak "might" be expected but not to the extent that you mention. As for the water leaks, if my soft top can be 100% dry (which it has been so far) there's no reason in the world for the hard top not to be.

Good luck & Drive Safe,

Mine was perfect, then started to creak after a lot of track duty. Had it adjusted and it is perfect again. NEVER had a leak.

Mine leaked a little and squeaked (kind of like a rattle) alot until I greased it up with the silicone grease ... shin-etsu, or something like that. It solved both problems for me.

I dropped the car off at another Honda dealer in town. Dealer #2 said that dealer # 1 did no install ther HT properly the first time, hence the problems. Dealer #2 said spacers/shims were never installed so the HT was loose. Dealer #2 called dealer # 1 to let them know what the problem was. The dealers will figure out where the repairs will be done. If this does not work I have the following plan in place :

If this fails a local S2Ki member has a HT and has volunteered to help me.

If that fails I will try to fly Hardtopguy down.

If this fails I will weld/glue the HT on and caulk the windows shut.

Do I have a sound plan ?

If I were you, I'm not sure I'd "want" dealer #1 touching my car again! Sounds like they got "real" sloppy with your installation. Either way, it seems to me that this should be a warranty item regardless of which dealer does the work.

Good luck & let us know how it goes.
