I know that with respect to LS1 Cam/birds the fuel pump is explicitly cooled by the fuel in the tank. Thusly, when you run out of gas the pump dies.

This may be where that line of thinking comes from.
BUT...I dont want the S to suck up the dregs of the fuel tank so I try not to ever let the light come on

I'm one of those people i never let it go under 1/4.
I'm right there with you.

I've found that it takes a while for my first bar to tick off...but then once I get down to a quarter of a tank it drops like mad. That's why I started to fill up once I got around the 1/4 mark.

Same thing happens to me, I let it go to 4 bars, next thing I know its down to 2.

I fuel up every 1.5 weeks usually.

Slightly OT--was filling up tonight and the pump never self-stopped for some reason. Traffic was rushing by so I couldn't hear the fuel level reach the top and I look down to see gasoline streaming down my fender and bumper. Now I have to rewax it.

FML.

Yeah, why is it that when you have like 3-4 bars left, it like instantly disappears.
