Future of the S2000?
Ok, not that this will resolve the question at hand, but for what it's worth (which admittedly may be nothing), I heard from my dealer that Honda plans to stop production on the S2000 after the 2005 model year. He said one of the reasons is that Toyota is coming out with a new Supra soon (for MY2006) and Honda plans on coming out with a successor to the S2000 in about 2008 to be the new "elite" car for Honda and to outclass Toyota's next Supra. Being that Toyota and Honda are fierce rivals, this scenario sounds plausible, but there seems to be lots of rumors floating around so who knows. Just thought I'd share anyway, in case anyone else might've heard the same thing. Enjoy your S2000 and take good care of it, I'm sure it'll be a classic someday.

.For example, every year the S2000 has been produced, some dealer has said it's going to be the last year. And there will only be 5000 produced. And if you don't buy it now for a premium, you'll never get another chance.
Ganley Honda seems to be one of those rare dealerships that doesn't try to blow
up your ass. Other than that, they all appear to be ignorant and/or liers.Speculate all you want, people, but there is no accurate info about the future of the S2000. We'll know when Honda wants us to know.
For all those annoyed by these speculative posts- DON'T CONTRIBUTE THEN.
Sure, no one really KNOWS, but it's entertaining to hear people's opinions. Some of these people are demonstrating that they really follow autos and it's fun to hear what they say.
I love the S and would hope that I can upgrade in a few years to a much faster/improved version, but if they don't make it, I'll look at another car company for what I'm looking for.

Just as long as it is presented as such. If somebody gets misled by a dealer saying "It's the last year" and they end up paying more than they should because of that, it's a bad thing.
I think the problem with honda is they keep trying to live up this thing with having really fast four cylinders. Don't get me wrong I am a fan, but I would love to see a six cylinder in the S. Who cars about getting 120hp from each L. When all we wanna do after getting the car is make more. If and when the nsx goes out of production honda should place the nsx engine into the S. The NSX isn't selling because the only changes done to it were some appearance and biiger wheels, oooooo big time. But seriously if the S had a 6-c imagine how much more fun it would be. I don't see it effecting the weight or handling of the car to much. Whats the weight distribution like 49/51 now, hell a 6 may even it out. With the added power and light weight of the car it's ganna be kicking way more ass. Not saying Honda is ganna do this, but this is something I would like to see happen. I think it would be good for honda, it should benefit them and us as well.
Then just think of modded the 6-c in the S. A 3.0 6 cylinder would be perfect in my opinion.

Like everyone else here I don't know what will happen to the S, but I know what I want to happen.
I want Honda to stop production in 2005 so the number of cars stops increasing and the S2000 maintains a core following of true car enthusiasts who understand that there is more to a sports car than numbers in the Road Test Summary in R&T, more than a $60,000+ price tag, more than how much boost you can add to a FWD econobox.
Making an S2000 with a V6 putting, say, 300 NA whp to the wheels with Honda reliability isn't just the added weight of the engine, it's going to mean beefier tranny, diff, chassis, etc. More weight unless you find places to save it (Al, Ti suspension components, CF panels and so on).
For those that want the hp (and I'm not being sarcastic here) take a look at a slightly used Z06. Yes, they're more money than the S, but you're all set as far as power to the wheels from the factory and you can take it further if you're willing to mod.
Isn't it the Miata guys who used to say "If you can't drive well with 120hp, how can you expect to do it with 300?"

I love this website. SO many opinions!
I agree with so much but only read a few posts that really focused on how this car drives.
Compared to the 350Z, well I can't adjust to just how heavy that car feels. I do not know if I am in the minority, but I think the car is unattractive. The G35 I love. Again, driving the two cars back to back the Honda is so much more fun. I can feel everything, feedback is absolutely fantastic. My cousin has an EVO that he has put $3000 into and runs 12.40 Quarters. It pulls as hard as my roomates Z06. Mine is still the most fun to drive. That is the most important thing. If I need to catch up, I'll call Ultimate racing and throw a turbo kit on there and hope my engine holds up and third gear doesn't turn in to oatmeal.
As for the 350z Roadster, it is nowhere near our S's. Torque or not, I would need to put my cousin in the trunk and my uncle in the passenger seat to make my car feel like that.
I hope there is a future for the S, I would buy an updated one.
I love the feel of the naturally aspirated engine, but I would be ok with factory forced induction under warranty with 320 hp at the crank and 260 to 270 at the wheel. It has got to be possible.
