Default FYI - Tips to keep safe with your S2000

Maybe it's the new baby that made me think of putting this list together in the middle of the night...

I've been on s2ki for almost 5 years and members have shared excellent safety advice. I thought of compiling it in one thread for newbies to read.

Feel free to add additional tips. This is just my short list. If you want support for any of my points, search is your friend

Tires
- Keep your tires properly inflated, probably to 32psi cold
- Grip on summer tires falls significantly when the temp drops below 40 degrees
- Drive a lot slower in the rain
- Watch your rear tire tread depth because rear tires wear out twice as fast as the fronts
- Use the same brand and model of tire on all 4 wheels
- Use snow tires for cold weather and snow

Harnesses
- Use a 5 or 6 point. Not a 4 point
- Harness without a roll bar is bad
- Harness on stock seats is bad

Turning at speed
- Brake in a straight line when possible. Don't hit the brake, take your foot off the gas, or do both in a high speed turn

Jack Stands
- Use at least 4 of them at the same time
- Push your car and sit in it while on stands to ensure it's secure before getting under the car

Blind Spots
- A convex driver's side mirror, an OEM hardtop, or going top-down helps tremendously with the two huge blind spots from top-up

Headlights
- Keep them on all the time when driving if you don't have DRL

My most annoying thing about the car, but at no fault of the car or driver really.

Visual
- Make sure other drivers can see you.
- Make sure other drivers can see you.
My double check has saved me a lot lately.

Funny
- Tell GF that if we pack the trunk down past the spare she might be carrying a tire if we get a flat in the middle of nowhere.

Tires
All in this section is good advise and applies to all vehicles.

Harnesses
Just use the damn seatbelt at all times, which ever one you have.

Turning at speed
- Brake in a straight line when possible. Don't hit the brake, take your foot off the gas, or do both in a high speed turn - Brake but don't hit the break? What? Dont use the street as a race track unless you are really good. You will die or crash your S which will probly give you a heart attack and you'll die anyways

Jack Stands
- Use at least 4 of them at the same time - At least 4, but 10 would be ideal

Blind Spots
- A convex driver's side mirror, an OEM hardtop, or going top-down helps tremendously with the two huge blind spots from top-up - Even if its raining spark plugs, go top down to avoid blocking those blind spots

Headlights
- Keep them on all the time when driving if you don't have DRL - NO. Simply NO

When your car is on jack stands throw your wheels under the car.

I went to Lowes and bought a short section of 4 x 4 post and then cut it to proper length for each jack stand point under the car. Now I have jack stands and nice big chucks of 4 x 4 posts to support the car and the dont take up much room in the garage...
