I got a call at work one night from a family friend who had just purchased one and couldn't find the knob. I had to explain to all of my coworkers what it was about.

I had an oil-change tech ask where the dipstick was (I have since changed my oil personally

Every time I go to a valet, I write a note describing how to get into reverse, AND that there's a start button.

You valet your car? I would never in a million years valet any personal car of mine! I had 3 friends in college valet as a job part time and they tore those cars apart! They used to drive new E55 AMGs and do donuts in parking lots in Detroit. Especially a S2000, with soooo much potential for abuse! When I go on business trips, even in my Audi, I personally park it in a lot where I dont have to leave my keys and do not valet it. I had to once in a Hilton in Cincy, but they only have a parking garage to drive it in.

Haha,

I HAD to join and share my story after reading this thread.

I bought mine about a month ago as a grad gift to myself, and have been dealing with purchasing/minor repairs/asshole dealers/shipping cross country.

Well, after finally picking it up from the auto shippers a few days before next years I had to get gas before the 40 mile drive home.
I pulled into the gas station behind my dad who drove with me to pick up my car. I get out and reach down to pull the tab (I've driven a Prelude the last five years). I was sitting there laughing and looking for the damn switch as my dad walks over and offers to buy my tank of gas. It only took a few minutes to find the little pull switch, thankfully. He thought it was hilarious that we're both sitting there with this new car and unable to put gas in it.

As for my secret compartment... I found that a week or so later. I've had my trunk gutted while trying to find the source of a water leak. I had been hearing a rolling/rattling sound when I would drive and figured I better find that before I put the trunk back together. Long story short, there were four random little bolts and two plastic screws in the deeper of the two compartments... rattling gone, problem solved, funny story to share

thanks for the laughs everyone, and knowing I'm not the only person who sat there trying to figure out how do something simple like fill-up

I just called the dealership when my gas got low. It took them five minutes to get me the answer, of course this was my old AP1 back when the S2000 first came out in the States.

When I picked my car up, the owner showed me the compartments and sent me on my way. I drove strait to a Sonic just 2 blocks away. Upon leaving I tried to put it into reverse and kept getting 6th! I would row through the gears till I hit 6th and just could not get it to go over any farther. That's when I tried pressing down...took me nearly two minutes.

10-15miles down the road I pulled in for some gas to top it off. Got out of the car, slid my card, lifted the handle, then went to open the gas door. Nothing. I'm pushing, and trying to wedge my finger in there. Nothing. Finally I have to set the gas pump handle on the ground, crawl inside the car and start looking everywhere. Since I was the only customer there, the gas attendent is staring at me the whole time. I finally had to call the guy I bought it from to get help.

Hey guys, if you can't find the manual, try looking behind the passenger seat.
I found it! Now I feel dumb.

im confused, you have to push the shifter IN to get it into reverse !? (dont have an s2k, but have driven a manual before)

Yes you have to push it down.

Its a lockout mech so you can't shift into R by accident when you're driving.

Lol I had the same problem with reverse. I ended up running up onto a curb because I kept putting it in 6th lol.

Even better since this was my first stick I had the dealer drive it to my apartment.

When I got in I couldn't figure out how to turn it on lol.

Had to get the manual to find out that I needed to depress the clutch to get it going
