Default Gas Guage

I had a quick question. After the low gas light comes you get a full tank of gas but the gas gauge does not shot up right away. It takes like 15 minutes, bar by bar to get back to full.. Thanks for you help.

I guess he's asking if this is "normal". Normally I would say Yes, I think all modern cars have this "feature" The computer is extrapolating over time. Otherwise if you hit a bump and the gas bounced to the top of the tank you would have a full tank then empty again.

But then, I filled up my car only twice (just got it) and both times it was full almost right away, of course I leave the key "ON" so that it goes up bar by bar while I'm filling it. 15 minutes, seems like a long time.

Don't leave the ignition on while filling up (even if the engine isn't running). Some cars (don't know about the S2000's, but this was true on E36M3's) can have the fuel sending units ruined if you fill up while the ignition is on.

Mine is the same way. It dont take long to get the bars to raise. Definately not more then 1 min. The only problem I have is the fact that I can never get a full tank. When pumping, it shuts off the pump (like it's full) and I have to do this like 5-10 times almost til gas comes out the top. Otherwise I come out with 3/4 tank when it stops!!!

Besides, I dont want to top it off...cuz that's just a waste of gas since it just evaporates anyways.

Strangely, I noticed the same thing last night. I was down to one bar, I put $5 in, started up, and....no bars. I drove around for a while and it slowly creeped up to 4 bars. This morning when I started up there were 2 bars.

You know, this has me thinking: When I first got my S2000, I liked filling up because people asked about the car and it was sort of a time to show it off.

Now I just wanna drive.

My gas gauge is always full by the time I start the car.

Never heard of this stuff, guys. I can practically empty my tank, fill it up, and the guage shows all bars the instant I start the car. I understand the need for averaging, but it's never shown up as a slowly increasing guage...the averaging should be a LOT faster than that.
