Default Gas Light on with 4 bars (pic included)

Greetings fellas, For whatever reason my gas light has been stuck on since this morning. I've got 4 bars left on the fuel gauge and haven't vtec'ed all day lol. I can understand if this was happening with my throttle wide open as a warning but I was shifting at 3200 rpm as usual today.

I think we need for information. Did you fill up the tank and the gauge is still showing four bars?

The fuel gauge fluctuates alot when it gets lower; sometimes low enough to where the fuel light will come on. It'll probably go away after you fill up.

Put gas in the tank fool.

Seriously though, how many miles on your current tank? I'm guessing your almost empty; the gauge is not that accurate.

Gauge can be a little funky I've had a few times after I filled my tank and restarted the car it didn't show full right away. I wouldn't worry about it.

The way my fuel gauge functions, I always thought the low fuel light came on as a result of the gauge reading a single bar, like an if-then statement.

It comes on around 2 bars. But those last few bars tick away faster than 10's on the odometer, so its hard to catch.

The way most fuel warning lights work is the threshold to kick the light back off is a lot higher than it takes to kick it on. They don't want it flickering on and off as you drive over bumps while low, etc. The moment it comes on, if you added, say, one gallon, it would still probably stay on.

So what prolly happened, is you went up hill with low fuel long enough to make gauge see two bars (gas sloshes to back of tank), then even once you're level again, and 4 bars, light is stuck on.

Its another "normal" thing

Try resetting the ecu it might go away if you have enaugh fuel for it to obtain a new reading. (Or just not be bothered )

experienced similar confusing guage readings once after refueling while leaving ignition on. corrected itself after a few hours. I would give it a while and if it does not correct itself, then I'd get more proactive on it. if cel light is on, perhaps pull the codes as there are several related to fuel system behavior

Honda gas warning lights and gas gauges are not actually connected to one another, as far as I can tell. The light can be triggered at varying gauge readings. Both the light and gauge are heavily buffered over time, as the actual real-time data from the tank changes constantly with sloshing.

With an ODB-II reader, you can see the actual tank level %, and if you are moving at all, it's swinging all over the place constantly. The gauge and warning light produce a kind of "average" reading, which can still be affected by climbing/decending hills or going around long turns to the left or right. Sometimes the light will be triggered by one kind of turn/hill, while the gauge responds to a different kind of hill/turn.

The S has a tiny tank, just keep it topped up.

for 11 years now I am looking at this gauge, learned how to read it, i can predict mine within one gallon. I also use the trip odo each time I fill up it goes to zero, at about 1/2 tank I am at 5-6 gallons gone and over 120 miles. It's been easy to figure out given that process. the other day my mileage as closer to 27 when i went on a trip, even so easy to predict. my usual miles per gallon is 22-23, so i figure that when filling up.I also use 11 gallons as a fill up amount, that's about when the light goes on.
