Default gas light on!!

Anyone know how much longer the S can go if the light goes off and no bar on the gas level?

When I have no bars left, I usually have to put 11 gallons or so in the tank. Capacity is 13.2, so do the math!

I've gone 30 miles, but the math always tells me I could have gone further...I just am too scared to try.

probably best for us not to try running it all the way down, as you dont want the fuel pump sucking air when you take turns and such. Nonetheless, I have gone and filled up at zero bars and fuel light was on for about 30 miles. Ended up putting in 12.2g. Whew! I was sweating all the way to the gas station.

I've been advised by my mechanic to NEVER let the fuel get lower than 1/4 tank. If contaminates are present, there's a good chance they will enter the fuel system.

Today I filled the car up at 270 miles with 12.7g of fuel. I don't really remember when the light first went on.

I've heard this too, but it doesn't make logical sense. Contaminates will sink to the bottom of the tank and that's where gas enters the fuel system.

I hope I never find out exactly how many miles I can go after the gas light comes on. When it lights up, I look for a Texaco station.

I reference tot he contaminates that is an old addage that is probably true. If you look at the intake on most cars it is on the bottom and filtered to keep large contaminates out. If you look at the saturation of contaminates it is less likely that the contaminates will enter the fuel lines with a fuller tank. Even though the heavier particles and such will fall to the bottom more liquid to suspend the contaminates is better. The motion of the car will likely keep the particles floating and more liquid is more room for them to float away from the fuel pump or fuel lines.

I might be incorrect, but explains how it could happen
