Default Gear Grind Problem Solved

after doing some research on s2ki, decide to use MT-90 Tranny fluid. The problem was it started to grind when going to 2nd gear, and a few hours before i changed the oil, when I would start my car it would grind as well, I was thinking it was a problem with the tranny fluid. After I changed the fluid, shifting was so smooth and no more grind when i start the car, or shift to 2nd gear.

oh btw what would be best oil to use on ur diff? I have a track session this weekend and would like to get the car ready.

Thanks
Laura

Mobil 1 or LE-607.

BTW, you'll probably do better if u post this in the UTH forum.

I understand the grind going into 2nd, but what's this grind you get when you "start your car"????? This is not clear. It shouldn't be grinding when you move off. Please clarify.

I see you are in Canada. Do you drive your car in the cold months? If not then go with the LE607 for the rear diff. It's too thick to be used if you operate the car during our winters. In that case, Mobil 1 75W90 GL-5 has proven to be very good fluid for this car for year round and track use. If you track the car, it would be wise to change the diff fluid a couple times a year anyway, so use the LE for summer and something else for winter.
The "proper" Honda Canada recommended fluid for this car is Hypoid Gear Oil found at Honda Motorcylce shops. It's a GL-5 rated 90 weight fluid.

well when i press the clutch in, and press the start button, after it starts u hear a long grind after, sometimes quick, sounds like it came from the transmission. It didn't sound like i started the car twice or anything, just a gear grind, so i got it changed right away. Changed my oil with mobil 1 as well while i was at it.

No i wont be winter driving it, just summer. RWD in winter + girl driver = crash

This would be an unrelated issue. It's your starter motor drive shaft not retracting quickly enough. A magnetic actuator pulls the starter drive wheel onto your engine's flywheel teeth when you push the starter button. This "cranks" the engine to get it started. When you release the starter button, the starter shaft should retract immediately. It would seem that yours is sometimes sticking or you are not letting go of the starter button soon enough when the engine fires up. If it's sticking, you'll be needing a new starter eventually. Do you still have warranty?

I would suggest you go with the LE607. You can buy it from a few sponsors on this site - Hardtopguy, Rick's, Marketplace. You'll need 1 qt for the diff (about 0.8qt actually). It's quite thick, so soak it in a bucket of hot water for 20 minutes before trying to put it into the diff. Also know that with this fluid, it would be wise to do warm up laps to get the fluid warmed up if it's a cool day. If you drive it to the track, this is not required.
