Default Get a leftover 2004?

Hey everyone, new guy here looking to get a s2k. I was originally looking at used 02 or 03's but I noticed some of the local dealers still have leftover 2004's in stock.

I started e-mailing them and one came back with a quote of $27,490 for a brand new 2004 leftover. Considering used 2004's even from private parties are asking $28k+ this seems like a steal of a deal. This would be a cash deal, no trade in so it isn't like they can lowball me on a trade.

Is there anything to watch out for? Do I need to worry about a new car that has been sitting around for a year or more? Seems pretty strange to me that there are still new 2004's out there, after all we are almost at the end of the 2005 model year. I'm worried that the battery will be bad and any gas in the tank will be bad too. What's up with this have s2k sales been that poor?

What do you guys think of this deal?

I bought a leftover 04 about a month ago. I got it for $27,290 incl. destination. Your deal sounds just as good. I haven't had any concerns. Just make sure the dealership didn't let the car go out on test drives without a salesman. This prevents kids from joyriding and slamming into VTEC before the break-in period. How many miles does the car have?

well I just checked on the mileage (he had just said it was "low" in the e-mail) and it has 450. I'm a little worried about people beating the tar out of it for 400+ miles. Then again it is only 400 miles as opposed to a used s2k with thousands of miles.

hmmm what to do...

My girlfriend picked up her '03 at the tail end of the model year with 500 miles on it. She's had zero issues.

Tell the dealership to throw in a 10yr / 100k mile extended warranty for free, and you'll take the car for that price.

Not trying to make it an issue, but if you say the car has 400 miles, and the average test drive is 10 miles (which may be long, mine was about 3-4) that is approximately 40 test drives. Ample opportunity for VTEC abuse. I would definitely insist on some sort of longer-term warranty. Other than that, it is a great deal, and a great car. Once you get it, you will forget all about the previous 400 miles put on the car. Good luck.

The car will probably be fine. I like the idea of getting the extended warrantee since you didn't break in the car, but you know... take the money and run. Sounds like a nice deal.

One of our local guys bought a new '02 during the '04 season and got a great deal. He's one of our happiest members.

Do it. Make sure you have a reputable dealer near you in case I'm wrong and you have issues with it.
