I need your advice. I'm about to make my dream a reality. I'm about to lease a 2000 s2000 as it's all I can afford at the moment. (and nor do I have the cash for any mods at the moment)
It's got 26,000 miles on it.
Unfortunately, I don't know if the car was "v-tech'd" or NOT before the 600 mile barrier. I guess I'll take my chances on that one ? or is there a way.
I've heard that one should lay a cloth of some sort down first as a barrier and then retract the soft top? as to prevent scratching. I don't know if the previous owner did this. But what if there are scratches on the rear plastic window ? does Plexus REALLY or the Meguiar's product hold true and remove them ?
Other than the "spring spacer" issue, what other s2000 specific issues shall I be checking for to ensure I'm not getting hosed ?
Put the top up and decide for yourself if the rear window is too scratched up for you. I didn't take care of my rear window properly and had serious scratches in it within the first year. Fortunately the dealer decided to replace it under warranty when I took it in for its first service at the one-year mark (5000 miles).
Now I have a towel below the window in the roof well and use another inserted from the outside whenever I lower the top. It adds maybe 30 seconds to the raising and lowering time, but after more than a year with the new window, it is still perfectly clear with no creases or scratches.
If the car runs well currently and it's a leased vehicle, why worry about how the engine was broken in? You're not going to be keeping it forever.
Make sure the car has had the seatbelt recall performed and that it has the revised boot cover so that the seatbelt tension is correct when the seat is all the way back.
Otherwise, if the car looks good and runs well, enjoy it.
can you explain this further as I dont' quite see it ? Now I have a towel below the window in the roof well and use another inserted from the outside whenever I lower the top. It adds maybe 30 seconds to the raising and lowering time, but after more than a year with the new window, it is still perfectly clear with no creases or scratches.
or if anyone has pics, would be greatly appreciated.. I just want to be as prepared before I sign on the dotted line.
I have a small black towel underneath the window inserted from inside the car, then this larger black towel, folded in half, inserted in the outside fold when I put the top down. You have to stop retracting the top before it's all the way down to insert the towel.
