Default Getting loctite to give!

Back when I got my car, I didn't know too much about loctite...I was a noob. In my infinite wisdom, I wanted to install a voodoo knob and coated all the damn threads with loctite and screwed the knob on (rather than using one drop.

As you can imagine, I can't get the damn knob off, and am afraid of using serious tools for fear of snapping something below the shift lever. Any ideas as to how I can weaken the loctite to screw the knob off?

I'd say you get a whole new shifter rod...

Yep, heat will soften it. Wear gloves.

Hmmm...the blowtorch is probably the best solution, but I don't know about having a lit torch inside the car. I will try the heatgun method. No chance of the heat traveling all the way down and melt the plastic ball at the bottom?

sure, there's a chance...but what are you going to do otherwise?

Just do a little heat at a time and then put some force on it with hand tools (like a big ass vice grip and a rag, if I'm correctly understanding what you did)...eventually it will come off.

Just start with a hair dryer before you go all apocalypse now on your car.

hair dryer should work - just need to leave it in there for a while.

Ugh, I went through the same thing a few months ago. What color did you use?

When I bought my car over four and a half years ago, it was missing the lock nut under the shift knob, so I used blue (I think, could have been red though) Loctite (order of strength is purple, blue, red and green) to center and secure it. Big mistake! When I wanted to regrease the shift linkage, I could not get it off. I used a hair dryer for heat, rubber grips, wrenches, etc. with zero success. I had to take it to my mechanic. He took out the entire shift linkage, used a heat gun, vice and channel locks to get it off. The knob was slightly dented, so, needless to say, I bought a new aluminum OEM knob and lock nut.

Good luck... and I wouldn't put a blow torch near my interior either.
