Tell her you will compromise.
Let her learn how to drive a standard on any other car than the S2000.
Once she gets the hang of it and you can ride around with her and feel comfortable, then tell her she has graduated to the S2000.
Love is grand, but not all of us are made out of money. Damage can be done.
Remember - compromise, with a promise for the future!

jcasta02,

I taught my girlfriend on my 2000 Mustang when it was brand new last year. She doesn't drive stick very often, so when I got the S2000, i was hesitatiing letting her drive it, but I did. Yeah, she stalled a couple times, but I just focused on making sure she didn't burn the clutch at all. Our clutches will burn out quickly if you don't drive it right. If you don't have another car to teach her on, then go for it. Just try and demonstrate how to start and stop in a parking lot for her before letting her try. Be prepared to get really agrivated because you don't have a hell of a lot of control in shotgun. If you smoke, make sure you have some butts on you, if you don't, make sure you have some butts on you.

Good luck. Been there, done that!

PS - I smoke

Out here in California, we have DARE (drug abuse resistance education) for kids in school. There main punchline is "JUST SAY NO" I suggest you follow suit. Teach her in cheap car then let her have a shot

I agree, the S 2000 should not be the car you learn to drive astick shift. Hey, I learned on an old Isuzu Pick-up truck and without lurching, and burning the clutch back then I couldn't make the S2000 shift smooth now. Let her work her way up

Teach her on a rental or beater, then reward her patience with a session in the S2K.
You think that's tough...I'm teaching my wife to drive a motorcycle. Talk about stress. No it's not mine. It's her Yamaha Virago 535. No way she could drive my Gold Wing. She's only 4'10".

if she knows the mechanics of driving a stick it will not take her long, before i got my S i drove a blazer with a stick for less than 20 mins, yeah stalled a few times, when i test drove the S2000 i stalled a bunch of times but when i came back later another sales person showed me how to drive without stalling easily so we switched seats and mins later i could drive a stick good, i havent stalled since a week after i had it

rent a manual car first to do the teaching...you gotta graduate to get to the S2000! The S2000 is definitely NOT the car to start driving a manual on. Try and Accord, nice soft clucth with a really LONG friction point. Good luck.
