it doesn't make much difference... I used to use JR. I could hear engine sucking up the air harder but that was about it. my butt dyno revealed nothing. only good thing about that filter was water washable. once a year, you wash it in the water which I've never done it. I got S/C and sold the JR filter.
With Vortech S/C kit comes with K&N filter. I "recharged" it last january with "Recharge Kit". basically, you wash it in running water, dry it and put some oil on.

I have a few question.
1. The JR air filter uses no oil??
2. How well does it filter compared to the K&N and OEM filters??
3. Is it possible to put too much oil on a K&N?? And I do not mean 3 or 4 coats too much. I mean you spray a coating(s) on, and then let it dry (as per the directions on the recharger box). Is it possible that there may be too much oil in any given spot?
I used to use a K&N on my 2000 Civic for a year or so, and then for a year on my 2002 WRX. I was always worried that I might have put too much oil on the filter after I cleaned and then recharged the filter.

One way to get rid of the oil if you spray on too much is to stand the oiled filter upright and let the extra oil drain till the oil stops coming out of the filter.
Or you can rewash the filter and respray the unit.

K&N air filters are a great choice, tried and proven in countless applications. I have the foam UNI filter in my Comptech box and I actually plan on replacing it with a AFE filter (similar to K&N but a bit higher quality) since K&N doesn't make a filter to fit the box properly. Foam filters are bad news in my opinion, but I like the cotton-gauze ones. They come preoiled which is nice, but when recharging them after cleaning, just be sure not to saturate the cotton with oil too heavily. The directions are fairly clear on how to go about doing it so just read and you'll be fine.
