The sad part is we started out as friends. I would help him on his car and he'd help on mine. Im just hoping he didnt beat my car and create a bigger issue.

Last October my car was in the boxy shop after an accident. I would have been cool if they took a 20 mile ride even without me giving permission, but not cool about lying about it. If the response had been 'sorry, couldn't resist. Took it for test drive after alignment and was having way too much fun', I would have been fine with that. Especially if it was said sincerly.

Here's a thought, what if it was alignment guy, not body shop guy, that took the unauthorized extended test drive? Maybe body guy didn't want to come clean about alignment guy, because, well who knows why. I can think of a couple reasons, but doesn't really matter.

Its not the bad act, its the cover up.

1. Wow! I would have been hacked!
2. Now, if I ever have to leave any car of mine, I will write down, or just take a pic of the speedo, and let them know I have (hopefully in a way not to cause offence).
3. I knew a shop to keep a guys pick-up they put a motor in, and were keeping it to run parts runs with, and they had done it for weeks!

Although i'd be pretty pissed I was lied to, atleast he didn't crash it and it was only 20 miles. If it was a friend maybe he thought it was cool to take for a ride, but at the same time, if thats the case then as a friend he should have been like "yeah I couldnt resist".. the tach goes up from idling... i mean come on haha

I'm surprised, especially since you guys are friends. I'm friends with my mechanic as well.
If he really wanted to drive it & asked, I'm sure you would have been fine with it
