Good Laugh
Stories like this make me glad that I trust my shop and its managers completely. Benefits of the family having done business with them for years, and of me personally getting to know the staff pretty well. Plus it's a small operation with little to no turnover.
Hell, last time I had them working on my car (hail damage) I actually TOLD the body shop manager to drive it around and see how he liked it since I'd just finished finalizing a new custom tune.

I wouldn't over think this. Your friend made a quick stupid response, that in hind sight, we ALL know is BS.
It could have been a lot of things. Alignment guy taking a long test run. Running it on the lift to find a noise. Who knows.
I had a similar situation. The guy told me he took it home to park it in his garage as he didn't have room to store it overnight indoors. I actually appreciated his effort.

I know it wasnt the alignment guy because the mechanic drove my car there then right back, never leaving the car. Plus the alignment guy is family. Im still pretty pissed about this asshole driving my car. But its ok because karma is a bitch and now he is loosing his shop because hes a dumb ass and doesnt know how to collect money from people.
the googly eyes service people get when they get the keys to my car make me sure to never let them touch it.
I go make friends where I can either watch, or do it myself- my alignment shop lets me hang out while they turn the bolts.. they know im not letting it out of my sight

20 miles on your car and you're happy some business owner is going out of business? It's 20 miles man.
I feel for this guy. I don't know him, we're sure you got a BS answer and we're about 50/50 if it was actually 20 miles.
I'd hate to think the guy put XXX12 on the work order instead of XXX21 and only drove the car 10 miles to get all your work done.
What I love, your attitude about the entire thing. Karma, is gonna bite you for being THAT guy. Enjoy life. Steer clear of me. I have more tolerance for life and little for people like you.
Perspective = last week I met a mother, who's 12 year old got cancer. You think she effin cares about 20 miles? Get a life. You're more of a tool then the BSing shop owner.
Rob-2, how would you feel if someone took your car without your knowledge, did god only knows to it like clutch dumps and slamming gears. And yes it was exactly 20 miles put on the car. The insurance guy showed me the photos. Then to lie to my face about it makes things that much worse. You obviously dont have love for your S2000 the way me or many others do. Let me take your car and beat the crap out of it and give it back to you. Matter of fact since you dont care about your car that much maybe you should sell it or crush it.
I would like to answer for Rob here. I probably would not lose sleep over it!
I assume I'm a little older than you. I have owned a few cars that I swore "I will never sell". My current s2k is on that list. I put countless hours into these cars (my wife thinks I like wrenching better than driving). With that being said, I'd sell my car for the right money. If you paid me, you could crush my car. Manufacturers keep making new ones and used ones keep going down in value. No biggie.
And I have been scammed by a few shops. I do 90% of my own work and used to work at a shop. When I worked at the off-road shop, I was accused of being a lier. Trust me, I am not a lier, and the customer truly was an idiot. It comes with the territory. I am now very selective of who works on my cars, but I have built very strong relationships with these shops and fully trust them. Stuff happens. Is it worth losing sleep over? Nah, I'd rather troll Internet forums. Lol
