Actually, it would depend on how new your car is. New cars frequently emit burning smells as they burn off various manufacturing deposits. Your catalytic converter really stinks as it breaks in; just ask any owner of an at-one-time-brand-new S2k. On the other hand, if your car isn't new, you have a different problem. Could be carbon deposits being removed from the previous owner (maybe didn't drive it that hard- let some gunk build up in the engine), or some shit might just be on fire!! Test it out in your particular situation. Oh, and make sure your foot's not on the clutch pedal! Good luck!

I'd like to point out..that by the fact you have achieved high speeds in your s2k (>100mph), you have extended your life span (since, obviously you lived to tell about it).. you see, you have come closer to the speed of light, and therefore time has slowed, in that period, for you... albiet, its pretty minute, but non-the-less, you have slowed time!!

As a point of principle I always exceed 100mph at least once a day. It is good for the soul!!

It's not bad for the car to go over 100. The top speed is 150-165 depending if you have the top up or down. We have all tested it out and pushed the limits once in a while

I heard that anything above 108mph and the canvas top will rip off.

But seriously, I do 100mph in my neighborhood... Of course, I live in the boonies so it's not that big of a deal.

Check the oil dipstick. They have been known to pop up. I am leaning more towards some oil that has spilled or leaked, and when you go fast, the metal heated up enough to give off the burnt oil smell. The third possibility would be unburnt material in the cat, which becomes very hot when you stand on it, and then cooks off.

If the car hasn't been driven hard, its prolly be carbon (which is good). Careful on 5'os though, a lot of em linger around during that time...
