On this note, my problem could be related to a loose heat shield. This seems more likely to me, I really dont get a "tap Tap Tap" but I will have them look at the plug.

I don't think we can find out unless AHM wants us to. I'm sure they know how many short blocks they've shipped to dealers.

I'd love to see them identify what caused the problem, how many F20Cs are affected, and most important, have them tell us they've fixed the problem so no more engines will be at high risk.

I agree. The "four" I have in mind are Jason's, Autoex's (a presumption at this point), mine, the the gal Jason knows about whose '01 S2K engine went bad at 1,200 miles. Mine was the lowest mileage we know of. Autoex's is the highest, if his turns out to be a bad #4 cylinder.

I agree with a previous post that we should look at the VIN numbers of the affected cars to see if there is a correlation. I also agree with that it is some fluke in the manufacturing process for a limited few engines and NOT an actual design flaw (otherwise the '00's would be affected as well).

And speaking of VIN's, just out of curiosity, are the last 4 digits sequential (meaning, #0052 was made before #1234?).

BTW, does anyone know when the '01's first starting being sold in the U.S.? Sometime late in '00? I bought mine in December (delivered to U.S. in December too) and the VIN is #2288. I am keeping my fingers crossed because now I am scared sh_tless

Well, Krazik, Jason Saini knows of another '01 that lost #4 cylinder at 1,200 miles.

Krazik, for the first time in the history of the universe, I agree...

No, seriously, it is wise not to jump the gun on this. It sounds like autoxEX MAY have a problem. But it may also be 'medical student's syndrome' ...

Have it checked out, see what the issue is and take it from there...it doesn't call for jumping to conclusions. And y2ks2k, what you are describing isn't what Jason has told me about.

Let's all take a collective deep breath and see how things shake out.

Anybody notice how butt-ugly that Porsche forum is compared to ours?
