Is there any benefit/negative aspect of using a mechanical CEL eliminator versus an electronic one?

Just saw this on eBay -

The thing in your link appears to be the mechanical sim. If you don't mind paying the overall cost of the product and the shipping, it'll save you having to do it yourself. However, if you're even a bit handy, it's much cheaper to do this at home.

An electronic may cost much more and if calibrated right, will supply a constant, stable signal to the ECU. However, if not working right, it can be useless.
A mechanical one allows the O2 sensor to continue functioning in the sense that it sniffs the exhaust. However, it only allows it to sniff only so much. When a suitable one is found to work, this can be a very cheap and effective way of fooling the ECU. The exception being that occasionally, such a device is not implemented in the correct manner and it too, becomes useless. (Those times when the angle placement is bad or the non-fouler is drilled out too much or when only one is use where two should have been used.
So you see there are pros and cons to both. Personally, I go for the cheapest thing that works.

Thanks for the quick response.

The moronic side to my personality always thinks that the one that costs more should be the better one!

These should be available at Shucks (Kragens):

<$5 + dremel = No CEL

If you don't have a Shucks around you, both pepboys and autzone carry these items

BTW: I used the ones without the gaskets and they work fine. No need to spend the extra money for the gaskets

Well I'll first say it does NOT smell like rotten eggs...rotten eggs reminds me of a wet fart or something nasty.

The car smells like gasoline pretty much. If you own a snow blower / lawn mower (not so much) then you have an idea of what catless smells like (after the engines warm up, that smell). It doesn't bother me at all. I actually prefer the smell but thats just me
