Under normal circumstances, you couldn't possibly crash into someone unless you are following too closely.
What is normal??? Driving conditions are constantly changing. I am not justifying JP's actions but if you rear end someone in this country, by law, you are at fault. What if all of a sudden, traffic in front of you comes to an abrupt halt? What are you going to do? You know the answer to that one, you are gonna light up your tires. If the person behind you is following to closely, there is a good chance that they will hit you.

If the traffic in front of JP would have come to an abrupt halt, the scenario would be exactly the same. Again I am not justifying the actions of a particular individual, I am just saying it goes both ways.

100% not true at all.....if you rear-end someone who deliberately slammed on their brakes hard for no reason. EVERY time it will be the person who slammed on their brakes fault....every time. There are a bunch of Road Rage laws on the books for explicitly these cases.....

I was illustrating his illusions that he was in the right. He was not in the right. There is no such thing as normal driving conditions on the road. This is not Gran Turismo. Obviously you cannot account for anyone else. One must account for their own actions and drive accordingly. If that means you have to take precautions then you must. Especially if it prevents an accident or someone from getting hurt.

As far as if the traffic came to an abrupt stop in front of him, then that is the drivers problem. You must allow a certain following distance to make up for that, and for the ignoramus behind you if they are following too closely. Everyone needs to go to a drivers ed course and actually learn something from it. A driver course at an auto-X is no substitute! In fact that just exacerbates the situation with an inexperienced driver.

I guess I should have bypassed all of this conjecture and just said that this is a case of ROAD RAGE! Oh yeah, and giving a cop a brake check is not smart!!

I am a criminal defense attorney. Take my advice. Don't argue with the police. Most of the officers I come into contact with are pretty decent guys (and they arrest my client). They're doing a job. But that's not my point ...

...Don't argue with the police because you won't win. My knucklehead clients learn the hard way. Even when you win .. you lose! You argue and you're only going to piss them off. They write you a citation or arrest you. Nice for you, huh? So you go to court and argue your case. Most of the time the Judge won't want to hear it because the officer will tell the Judge what a jackhole your were and the Judge won't then cut you any slack. But even if you win -- you lose. My clients feel so vindicated when they win their case. It cost them lawyer fees, the hassle of being arrested, the hassle of going to court -- and they still think they've won. Dumb.

The officer ALWAYS wins. He's getting paid to go to court. Are you?

[and, IMO, what you did on the highway was childish and dangerous. Move over and let them pass -- even if you're doing 100 mph. The highway is not the place to teach people lessons.]

so im doin 85...so i tapped the breaks and this asshole doesnt back off. tapped them again and he still didnt back off. so finally i...hit the brakes so hard i thought my brakes were gunna lock up. so i look in my rear view and i see the front end of this assholes car bob back and forth trying to gain control. than out of no where i see his cherries come on and a voice over his radio saying "pull over to the side of the road now!" i pull over and wait like 15 minutes for the doughnut eating pig to get out of his car. and when he aproaches my window he asks the usual questions "license registration..." and all that bullshit. then he asks me if i know what i did wrong. so then i tell him that i was being a responsible driver and telling a known traffic offender to stop following so closely. than he trys to tell me that jamming on my breaks on a major interstate for no reason is against the law. and i replyed with "but it wasnt for no reason i was tapping my breaks because the person (emphasising that it was) was folowing me too close which is also known as tailgating which is a 8 point ticket here in jerz.
and than i argued with f\him for about 15-20 minutes about how i did nothing wrong so he goes back to his squad car and makes me sit in my car for about a good 10 minutes and everytime i put my hands off the wheel he said "Keep your Hands on the steering wheel over his baconesque intercom. So he finally comes back and gives me a ticket for Careless driving for jaming on my breaks.
man this just proves that all cops are dickless lifeless soulless pieces of garbage that deserve a casket 6 feet under!!!!
God I was trying to edit out the fat and respond to the post, but after reading it so many times, it has become pointless. You are an idiot. Roll titles. THE END.

IMHO what you did was wrong. You are damn lucky it didn't cause an accident. What is worse, tailgaiting or causing a collision? I am being polite.
