Default Got quote from dealer for rear window

I cracked my rear plastic window in my '01 and got a quote from the dealer to replace just the window (for reference). They told me it would be $1100 total to replace the rear plastic window with glass. I thought that this couldn't be done without converting to an '02+ top and frame. I kept asking the manager if he was sure it was glass and not plastic, because of the way the top folds and they kept telling me that it was glass. They were going to charge 300 or so for replacement window and the rest was labor (I know its a tedious and time consuming job, but I thought that was a lot for labor). I just wanted to get some thoughts on this because after much research I see that it really doesn't seem possible to put glass in the '01 top without modification. Thanks guys.

You can replace just the soft top with an '02+ one (see clovis post), but I never heard of replacing just the window.

I'm wondering if that new glass window will go CCCRRUNCH the first time it's folded.

Exactly. Maybe when they said glass they meant "plastic glass"....

Well, they really should know the difference. The two have completely different part numbers:

Plastic: http://www.slhondaparts.com/browse.asp?Mod...d=86317-S2A-003

Glass: It would seem that you must purchase the complete top to replace the glass window:

I don't think your dealer really knows what they're actually getting. Judging by the price, they would get the entire soft top.

I have an '00 s2k, and the first thing when I bought it (used) was to replace
the top with a JDM '02 blue top with a glass window. I didn't change the frame.
A great body shop in SF charged me $300 in labor (I got the top off Ebay
for $400 if you can beleive it).

It can be done without a new frame. I've had mine for four years now and its
working very well. One work to the wise--remove the MIDDLE two snaps for
your tonneau cover from the back of your car. They are mounted behind you
on the back side of the bulkhead. They are absent on the 02+
cars because they rub the top if you don't remove them and will eventually
cut into it (the glass top fits tighter into the rear well).

I love the glass top, plus I have the Ap1 engine and suspension!

I just found the actual quote sheet and the part number is for the plastic window (86317-S2A-003). Looks like a whole new glass top and frame when I can afford it...

I don't see how its possible...the opening for the plastic window is probably twice as big as that for the glass...unless they sew in some fillter material?

There is a top conversion kit sold on eBay through Cabrio World that includes the elastic frame retainers, so the glass does not go "crunch". I think they go for $650 for EVERYTHING. I cannot see more than $350 in labor, as you just pop the elastic retainers on (instead of modifying the existing frame).
