i changed at 5k, then 9k and now my next oil sticker from the factory says 21k! haha. BTW, my engine oil level never drops and is also almost to clear to even see on the dipstick. just follow the manual, but you dont need to baby the car too much either!

That stuff [FRM cylinders] is pretty tough and made it possible for the F20 (at first) to reach 9k-every-day without the heat generated by friction at those revs.
The white paper discussing the F20 design clearly mentioned it.
Downside is that it takes a while to wear-in.
True synthetic oils do not provide the wear you want for the FRM cylinder walls.
Factory dino oil does.
Bravo, pal. This is close to being the first reasonable explanation that I have read as to why Honda would discourage early oil changes.

Still, the manual says don't change the oil. It doesn't say don't change from dino to synthetic.

P.S. Where do I get the white paper?

Over the years I have seen many complaints about rings not seating when the initial oil was changed too fast to synth (frm or not). Just wait unless you have a VOA that proves otherwise.

I wonder if there is any connection to this and the higher oil consumption we see with many S2000's?

wait...so is dyno oil better than synth. for the s2k because of the FRM cylinder walls?

And if so....is there anything wrong with switching back to dyno after going with synthetic???

Or am I just missing the point of a couple comments...

Honda engineers probably know their own creation better than any of us

wouldn't it be smart to follow their suggestions (owners manual)?
They also like their jobs. Never accept there isn't room for improvement. If they suggest what will make the car last forever, how will they ever sell you a new one?
