had a blast in my S today...
i finally put 1000 miles on my odometer yesterday, so i decided to officially end my cars break-in period and begin to push my car harder to see what the s2k hype is all about. i must admit, i hated my s2k during the break-in period mainly because the car has no usuable low end as well as the harsh ride while driving along poorly paved city streets. in fact, i on numerous occasion (during my 2 weeks of ownership) doubted whether i made the right decision to purchase an s2k. anyway, i live in the san francisco bay area, and decided to treat myself this afternoon to a roadtrip along the pacific coast highway off the 101 headed towards point reyes. for those who are not familiar with this road, it basically weaves through a few hills and canyons with spectacular views of the shoreline here and there along the way...meaning lots of twisties!! i was a little nervous at first, given i have very minimal experience behind a RWD sports car (my previous car was a prelude type SH), but after a dozen or so careful pivots around 2nd gear corners, i became accustomed to the car's handling characteristics, and began to really push the car. words cannot begin to describe my impression of this car's handling. all i can say is: WOW!! i mean, i've always considered my prelude SH to be an extraordinary handler, but compared to the S2K, the prelude's reflex was snail-like, and it's handling like that of a pig!! it was a blast charging through the corners. and the acceleration, once the engine revs beyond 6000rpm, is so brisk that on a couple of occasions, i accidentally bounced off the rev limiter cuz i didn't expect to reach redline so soon. anyway, on the way back, i came up behind a bmw z8. it was pacing along behind a couple of slower cars. i guess it was obvious to the z8 driver that i was getting impatient in this slow traffic cuz i couldn't help but keep tailing him. so for the next 20 minutes or so, the z8 driver (repeatedly) purposely slowed down to leave a large enough gap behind his car the the one in front of him and then blasted through a couple of corners at a time, i guess wanting to see if i can keep up with him. for the most part i WAS able to keep up. the only problem was that he on several occasion slowed to 10-15mph and full throttled ahead, and since the s2k has virtually no low end torque, it took a second or two before the S started to pic up serious speed. but overall, i was impressed with the S's performance for i was never left in the dust by the z8. and considering that the z8 has way more power, more rubber, and costs nearly 3 times more than the S, i'd say the S is quite a competitive and awsome vehicle. nevertheless, i still yearn for more low end torque. i guess i'm still kinda used to my prelude that produces max torque at 5000rpm vs. the S's 7000+rpm. anyway, it was a good run. i guess i pushed my S harder than i had planned, but oh well...
Let's see... You got to drive an s2k (top down presumably) on hwy 1 while playing with a z8. While I, on the other hand, had to drive a jeep wrangler through ice with my s in the garage. I hate californians

I was reduced today to installing Muz's trunk saddlebags to experience my S. We've still got more than two feet of snow on the ground here even after rain all weekend.
Feh on New England weather!
