I have an ap1 with an ap2 differential in it, would i need it even though in the ap2 they extended the differential

This is not true...the myth has been busted. The ap1 & ap2 diffs are exactly the same width from flange to flange. The ap1 & ap1 axles are exactly the same...they share the same part number.

Read the entire thread to determine if you need spacers and to learn why the spacers can help prevent the vibration often occuring after lowering a car with a few miles on it. There is a cheaper solution however...swap the inner cv buckets from right to left and vis versa.
