Default handling in lower gear

i know this sounds stupid, but why does the car seem to have more grip when u downshift? it feels more tight and in control.

Dont be afraid to ask even if you feel stupid by doing so.

Grip is all about control. Now think again and tell me how you are going to get better control of your S? You know what I mean?

I find it is easier to throttle steer in lower gears, as long as you have a delicate foot on the throttle. Having more power available makes this easier, which is why the car seems more driveable in lower gears. Other than that, there should be no difference. No change in the overall limits of grip (determined mostly by the tires, also by the alignment and chassis).

in those gears, the rear tires are in charge of traction due to the throttle you apply. the faster you go and when in a higher gear, the overall momentum of the car dictates where the car ends up (less control) and how it reacts.
