Has anyone heard of a hardtop causing damage to a soft-top?

Before I purchased my brand-new

I have had a hardtop for quite a while never had a problem. I think since the previous owner never used the soft top it probabely just needs to be worked in a little. The fabric may have just tightened up. Definetly something you would have to look into. Good luck

I'm a little concerned about this too. My 01 is in storage for the winter with the hardtop on. As I'm in Kuwait for 3 more months, I won't be able to take the top off at all. I'm sure it will be difficult to latch, but will the plastic rear window have a permanent crease? Should I oil something when I get back or simply deal with it?

Thanks,
Zam

I've had my hardtop on each winter for the third time. The first two winters, the hardtop was on for about 5 months each. Each spring, after I took the HT off, the soft top functioned as normal.
As for the crease, this may be something that is very hard to avoid. Even those who have used the "window roll" still have a crease to some degree. A much bigger concern is the plastic window getting scratched and cloudy. Good maintenance and static cling tint will help with this.

That is nothing to be concerened about. When I take my H/T off after the winter. (I leave mine on from 1st of Nov until about March, and it is hard to latch the soft top. Just leave it latched a while, and it will stretch back and work just as well as ever.

Last week I took off my hartop to install Rick's center console and tried to pull up the soft top to see how it looked and I a little difficulty clipping and unclipping the window latches but not to worry - it's normal.......the hardtop has been on for 2 months already so I figured thesoft top would be tight......
