Default hardtop installation fee?

Hi, new to the forum, I hope this is the correct place to post this question...

I am in the process of purchasing an '04 S2000. I want to pick up the hard top option. However, the dealer is telling me that in addition to the 3K for the hardtop, there is an additional charge of $800 for "installation and setting up the wiring harness." It seems to me that the wiring harness would be standard and if you pick up this option, it (basically) plugs right in. Has anyone else heard of this charge? Is there an additional charge for the hardtop? It just doesn't seem to add up to me.

Thanks in advance!

i know the hardtop is a factory option with an obscered price tag. yes their is an installation fee if you buy from honda. i thought it was 360$ though. you can install the hardtop yourself. when i buy mine, im going to order the install kit from hardtopguy.com and do it myself. ive been reading up on it, its not too hard.

I did it solo up to the point where I had to actually put the HT on then I needed a second set of hands.
It took a total of 2hrs.

good god! just another reason i avoid dealers. $800 for a minimal amount of work? you could pay for the labor on installing two superchargers in your car at that price!

buy from hardtopguy.com and do it yourself. that's the most economical way to do it. installation is routine, and you'll get the satisfaction that comes with working on your car and knowing a little more about it when you're done. you can't put a price tag on that.

DXLST did my Mugen HT install in 30 minutes. It's not that bad at all.

rip on the purchase. double-dip rip on the install labor.

post the dealer's name. they must think they've got a sucker on the line.

If you're in NOVA you should wait until the next Mid-A mod day. They just had one this past weekend, but the past 2 the brothers from Ganley Honda (www.hardtopguy.com) have made it over and bring over anything you order. You can get a hardtop from HardTopGuy for ~$2500 and since they bring it to you there are no shipping costs. Also, someone at the mod day can help you install it.

So that way you get a hard top + install kit + install = ~$2670 + tax

That's what I would do, just my $.02
