Hardtop left marks on trim

is it possible to put the grease on before the hardtop goes on to avoid any scratches to the paint?

The grease will protect the black plastic some and stop squeaks. If the hard top contacts the paint in the rear, it is not adjusted properly.

By installation they mean install the rear catchers and defroster harness. The top can be removed any time and re-greased while off. The damage comes from the top moving back and forth over time without any grease to protect it.
