I just got the call from the dealer. The hardtop is now available. Here's the deal:

- $2,995,
- 90 - 150 day lead time (?????),
- top will be VIN-specific (i.e., will include VIN plate matching car),
- no estimate yet on installation cost for 2000 models - they still haven't seen any specs yet regarding time to install the kit.

Here's an interesting one - the stand and cover will not be available in the US. Apparently, the folks at American Honda thought the approx. $750 price was too high and didn't think they could move the product. They are currently working on a less-expensive ceiling hanger or other type design.

Any takers?

I would love to have one for August in Houston when it's too d@mn hot to put the top down, but we're talking close to $3,500 once you include sales tax and installation. Ouch.

jay1064,

Hmmm...the hard top would be usefull in the Summer.

Too hot to put the top down, and it is probably better insulation than the rag top.

I wonder if H and A Accessories will be able to sell the Hardtop at a discounted rate?

Anyway, I'm just curious who is the marketing guy for Honda of North America. . .

Think about it:

$32,000 for a car
+ (big dollars over MSRP in many cases)
+ (accessories)
+ ($3000 + tax for a hardtop)

But, they won't sell the stand for $750 go figure. . .

I remember reading somewhere that the optional hardtop for the Z3 created a very annoying booming sound. Any first hand info regarding the factory S2000 top?

I am thinking about the hard top too but:-

1. I need to see one in the flesh (in the UK)
2. I am confused about the talk of a fitting kit - what exactly does it entail?

Pueo,

Nope...no hard top in the car show. There is a yellow S2K on a revolving stage though. John Eagle Honda has a booth with a yellow one too (it's got some ugly chrome Anterra's on it).

Hi,

I posted this in the group buys/for sale forum on Friday (wasn't sure if it was okay to post it in regular area)

http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...p?threadid=5992

Honda starts accepting orders on the 1st for the initial stock they have on hand. After that stock is gone then the 90-150 days lead time starts because the items have to be made and ship out of Japan.

We will be selling them for $2790.00 (Honda didn't leave us much room for discount and even added a $100 destination charge on every one.)

They also won't let us stock any of them. Each one has to be ordered with a customers name and VIN. Once ordered we can't cancel or return the item.

I hope to have a page up shortly for ordering them online.

-Trevor
