I would have winked at him and revved the engine a few times to let him know his overbearing attitude didn't mean squat to me. Then I would have pulled over, parked, and waited for him to either go away or come back and give me a verbal reason for his BS attitude. What is it with motorcycle cops? Is it just me or do an unusual amount of them seem to have a domineering attitude that's usually uncalled for?
Just give him a "V" and make a right turn away from him at the first opportunity. The cop was looking for trouble and the best thing to do in a situation like that is to leave. This is the kind of trouble you want to avoid. You can't win.

Why do I get the feeling that a lot of drivers that hate cops so much have some sort of past about them that makes them marked drivers. In all my 33 years of driving, I have NEVER had an encounter with police that made me hate them. I haven't been an angel on the roads and when I have been pulled over, I took it like a man and was pleasant to them and they were to me.

I tend to agree with you, I've been driving for a long time too and more or less concur. You must admit, however, that there are some bad cops out there.

In general, I'm usually happy to have cops around, but sometimes they overstep their boundaries.

I got pulled over on I-78 in Southern New Jersey. The reason?....the cop said it looked like i didn't have my seatbelt on. How can u see that going 65mph with the top up?? Then he proceeded to ask me "What'll this baby do" and "How quick is she, how many hp, whats the top speed...etc" I felt like saying "listen guy, i've got places to go...if you really want to know about my car go to the F'n dealership". Pissed me off. It's strange with me...but I get embarrased if I'm pulled over...everyone thinking I'm some kind of deviant.

Just like in life, there are good people and there are bad people. Do you have a seat belt law in NY, kadeshpa? If so, he has the right if it looked like you weren't wearing it. BTW, were you wearing it? Also, he sounded like a nice guy and you have the attitude about him ( I didn't say you had one WITH him). You should have felt complemented by his interest in your S. I now I would have.

Dario

There is a seatbelt law in both NY & NJ, but, the policy is, I think, only to check in the course of a stop for other violations (ie:speeding or reckless driving). The cop was probably wrong to pull him over, but his curiosity about the car probably got the best of him. Either that or he assumed that anyone driving a sportscar like the S has to be guilty of something.

Years ago I was in a car with a friend who is a German diplomat. There's nothing quite like the joy of being able to blow of a patrol car ;-).

I've met a number of policemen in my self defense class.
They are like anyone else--some good apples, some bad
apples. The difference is that you don't have to deal with
the bullshit that bad apples throw your way in other industries.
As a result, I think it's reasonable to hold them to a higher
standard. So yes, in response to above, I would file a
complaint. When the government buys a man a gun, he
shouldn't be attempting to intimidate someone innocent
while he's on the job!

Ironically, the cops who were the nicest were the ones who gave me tickets. The cops who harrassed me, didn't do anything, but just felt like wasting my time.

btw, my friend met a cop a couple days ago at a bike shop, who was shopping while on duty...
