has anyone come across
a head unit compatible with the external radio controls? I really enjoy playing my iPod through aux ports as well as making mp3 CDs. Any input appreciated I know modifrying is an option what else??
Honestly, the Modifry DCI is the best way.
There are other options from PAC-SWI and another company, but they have lag.
You can do your own work programming a PIC, but you'll have to debate if that's worth it or not. I thought about that for about two weeks before I ultimately just bought the DCI. Not worth my time to do all the learning, design, and fabrication. If you want this way, you can search the forums and find how the oe remote wiring works in terms of resistance, both for the car and the head unit, and play from there.
I'm very happy with my Modifry DCI unit.

Modifry's DCI is totally the way to go. I don't know what your options are for head units compatible out-of-the-box (or even if any exist) but why limit your options from the outset? There are better constraining variables (price, power, features, etc) to worry about.
