Has anyone raced a boxter?
Yes. I enjoyed reeling in a Boxster S at Sebring last weekend! I passed him and the NSX in front of him with relative ease. I'm no track star, so I can only think that neither one of them was playing hard. I even got it all on 8mm tape! Who was it around here that can translate that into mpeg files?
Latest rumor is they're again trying to get the S2000 into the lower super stock Solo II class - c'mon boys, get those letters in!
You DO NOT want SCCA stock class prepared Boxster S's and S2000's in the same class - the national results for the last year show a number of very LIGHTLY prepared standard Boxsters (Goeke, Kim, Buetow, Sharp) up against WELL prepared S2000's (Thomason) and they are competitive that way - I shudder to think of how a developed standard Boxster will do in the right hands!
My region has a number of fast, nationally competitive AS drivers in it - us with the S2K and a number of Boxsters, 968's, etc. I think the current AS is a great and competitive class, lets not let them mess it up!

No offense, but actually it just demonstrates that the driving ability of the S2K drivers was superior to that of the Boxster drivers.
I've seen PCA autocrosses here in Seattle and was able to watch the really lame one there in Portland last Sunday and I've yet to be impressed with the autocross skills of most the PCA members. While the drivers are okay, they're not national level drivers and the cars are likely not prepared to the limits of the SCCA Solo II rules, so it's difficult to compare them to what the potential of the cars are.
Ones in the area to watch for are Greg & Jodi Fordahl (modified 914), Bill Buetow (968 & Boxster), Colin Watson (Boxster & others), Leeds Gulick (modified 914), Mike & Carol Leuty (924S), and Val Korry (Boxster S).
Those are good folks to compare times with, they're nationally competitive Porsche drivers for Solo II.

Annie's right. The Porsches in our autocross class (Boxsters and 944s) are formidable cars. And with a good driver they will give you fits. The S2000 is a great car, but it does not make the driver invincible. It ain't easy to deftly guide 3000 pounds of racecar around a tight track ... but it sure is fun! You have to put in the seat time.
Last weekend, an M Coupe had no trouble passing me at Sebring. If my instructor had gotten behind me in his ITA CRX I'm sure he would have been crawling all over my bumper too, even though his car has 100 less horsepower. On the other hand, I easily passed a Boxster S, and a couple of NSXs
. Untill you get really good, there will always be faster drivers and slower drivers out there, despite their car's potential.

I traded my Boxster in this week for an '01 Sliver/Black. I've lived with the BXTR for 3 years and 30k miles. It feels "heavier and bigger" than the S2k. The S2k feels more "nimble". Mine was a '98 2.5L (HP increased a bit in 2000 on the basic car, and then, of course, there is the "S"). The Box has a better exhaust note (which I intend to fix ASAP) and feels to be all around more sluggish than the S2K.
I drove the Boxster S for a few days trying to make up my mind of which one to buy... Here is my take: The S2K is more of a fun toy than the Boxster; too many old geezers tooling around in Boxsters...on every corner; the front of the Porsche is UGLY while the front of the S2K is wonderful. So, I'll have more fun driving and have $5K to spend on "personalization" and still have $10k to put into my kid's college fund! Oh yea, did I mention that I won't see myself (or my parents) on every street corner?

I also raced a boxster S. I was behind him at a light and he gunned it so I followed, by second gear I was on his side and when third gear hit I was pulling back in front of him. It is only 250 Horses not much more than the S2k.
Raced a regular 2.5 boxster. Doesn't stand a chance in hell.
The boxster S should be close though as seen from posts here, advantage going to the boxtsre S at lower speeds and to the s2k at higher speeds.
All in all though very close cars. (Boxster S and S2000)
