Default Has anyone used a freight shipping service?

I think some of you on here know that I recently moved and that I also bought a Civic Si as a daily driver for my new job since I have to do quite a bit of traveling. The problem is my S is sitting at my parents house waiting for me to figure out how to get her down to my new place in South Carolina.

So far:
-I don't have any family (near my parents) that can drive a stick or have the time to drive it to SC.
-I don't trust any of my friends to drive it down here.
-I have a friend in Atlanta that said they would be willing to drive up to Raleigh, then drive one of the cars back down to SC one weekend, but they can't do it for several months.
-My parents want me to come get the car sooner than later.
-I have looked into plane tickets--the cheapest one way to Raleigh I can find is $350 and the closest airport is 45 minutes from me.

This has prompted me to think of alternative ways of bringing the car here to SC. I know that some people have their cars freighted when they buy off of ebay motors, etc. Has anyone gone with any of these companies? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I got a quote from greenlight freight services for $250. So far its cheaper than me flying to Raleigh and driving it back to SC, but I don't want to risk the chance of the company screwing up my car or being able to find a cheaper solutions.

how far is the drive? if it is 500 miles or less, just do it yourself. i picked my GPW up from ohio, and drove it 600 miles back to ny. i flew in (via Airbus, $162 one way for the wife and i) and hopped in and drove home.

imho, those shipping companies have f'd up more then their share of cars, so if you are close, just do it yourself. also, get another quote for flights. i paid $75 each for a 600 mile flight, and it sound like you will not be going any farther then me.
The drive is 600 miles round trip--about 300 miles one way.

I do know about airbus, but they don't fly out of the airport in Greenville, SC. They do fly into Greensboro, NC (about one hour drive from Raleigh).

The problem I have with flying is that I don't know anyone here (aside from my bosses) to drive me to the airport which is 45 minutes away. And I'm sure a taxi that distance would cost a fortune. Plus, I believe there are only 4 or 5 airlines that fly out of Greenville's airport and it seems all of the flights have to connect me in either NY or Atlanta, which is why I think the cost of one way is over $300.

I wish I could drive it myself as it would save me quite a bit of money, but I dont want to pay over $300 for a plane ticket.

Personal pet peeve, it's SKYbus flying into Columbus, not airbus. Airbus is an airplane manufacturer.

Incidentally, Skybus only operates airbus aircraft...

Completely agree. I used to be in the industry and thus the airline nerd-ness. Forgot to add, flame away.

When i bought my car last year, i bought it off of my friend in NJ, and had it shipped cross country to San Francisco. I paid for covered transport, which was about $300 or 400 more than the open trucks. It cost me $1300 to get it across the whole country, 3000 miles, since there was no way i was willing to drive that far.

I used a company called 1st Call Auto Haul, which is a broker service for independently owned trucking companies (i think). they were well priced and have had good reviews, and I had no problems with them.

I think 300 miles is pretty short though, only 5 or 6 hours. I'd probably just drive it myself if i had the time and it would save me money. if it doesnt save you much money, and its really inconvenient to drive yourself, I think a trucking company with a good reputation will work just fine.
