Default Headlight Aiming?

Picked up my S2000 yesterday and drove home from texas, 700 miles of fun.

Headlight question though. First it seems that when i am going down hill the head lights (beam pattern move towards the car). Then when i go up hill they seem to move away from the car. Is this just my imagination?

Second my drivers side light seems to be pointing down lower then the passenger side. When i am driving the light pattern has a distinct step right in the middle of the road where the light stops. So the left side of the road is dark a good 30 feet before the right side.

How do you adjust or level the head lights? I think even the right side need's to point further out. When i was going 90 i was out running my lights. Not good.

You have HID projector type headlights. They are very focussed beams and what you see is a characteristic of this sort of headlight. The "step" is supposed to be there so you don't blind oncoming traffic. Before you start messing with something that may be perfectly normal, read your owner's manual to see how you can measure the beam and then decide if you need them adjusted. The owner's manual may also give some indication on how to do this.

Just read the owners manual doesnt say anything that i can see besides how to turn them on and off and that you shouldnt replace the low beam light due to a risk of high voltage discharge.

Anyone have any anyformation on this?

My driver side light seems to only light up about 120 ft out and passenger side maybe 150 ft. When your going 75 or faster that doesnt give you much road to look at. I dont think this could be correct?

Is your S lowered? If it is then that is your problem. They need to be adjusted when you lower the car and peeps don't always do this. If not, then go to the dealership and they would check them for free(at least they did mine). They will let you know if they need to be adjusted. True, the step you see is normal

Hmmm, you'll have to find a service manual and on pp. 22-68 and 22-69, it shows how to measure and adjust. I guess Honda doesn't want you messing with it as many people think their headlights are out of whack when they really aren't.

Your pattern should look something like this:

__________/__________/ At 25 ft. from a flat wall, that bottom line should be 2.1" below the actual distance of the center of the HID lens to the ground. The adjustment is through the hole in each fender from inside the engine bay. Look in the hole and you'll see a knob. It only adjusts up and down.
Disclaimer ....................... Do this at your own risk. You may be adjusting something that is already normal.

Thanks for the info.

I dont think my car is lowered. Factory wheels and tires and the owner didnt say anything about lowering it.

It's fine! That's how its supposed to be.

Everyone thinks the same thing when they get this car.

It's that way to keep from blinding other cars and you low beams are still way more effective than most peoples high beams.
