Default Headlight pattern pictures???

Hi

My dealer is having problems adjusting my headlights after replacing one of the units, you can clearly see the step down but the cut (step down part) is now in two places where the head lights are not lined up properly.
So they look kinda like this
---_-____

rather than

----___

I hope the crappy drawings are clear, oh and obviously I am in the UK hence the cut is on the wrong way round for those that drive on the right.

Which is how I remember them being, can anyone post a picture of the pattern the lights make against a wall please, at least that way I can show them what they should look like

Thanks very much

Ross

Your second 'drawing' is correct. I don't have a picture, but there should only be 1 notch. The notch should be centerline on the car, so have your dealer try 'spreading' the lights.

Good luck!

I've got two definite steps in my headlight pattern... I thought this was normal?

Ross: Check out the following two scans from the service manual posted by (Paul) Harvey Jr.:

For US s2ks, I think it means that the left headlight (A) "should reflect 52 mm (2.1 in. ) below" the right (B). Keeps the (A) beam out of the eyes of the oncoming traffic.

dgl1 - Thanks, those scans are a real help, but I could definitely do with a picture of the result of those adjustments, as the dealer still seems to have a problem.

There does seem to be a bit of a difference amongst us though, some people have only one drop/cut others have two or more. Definitely a little strange.

You guys crack me up
Depending on the distance at which the beams are viewed, you are going to see two notches most of the time and only one notch if you're at the magic distance where the beams converge.
Kinda like guns on the wings of an airplane where you can set the convergence at a certain distance.
SO the more appropriate question is:
"At what distance are the head lights supposed to converge and where (center, offset drivers side,......)?"
