Okay, fair point, then I'll ask the question

"At what distance do the notches line up?"

Oh, and any chance of a picture against a wall of the image from a specified distance, keep it close say 10feet or so (2.5mtrs)

Thanks a lot

Do search on the forum. I remember about 6 months ago someone with to much time on his hand conducted an experiment with the low and high beams. He used a wall and took still pictures. The thread had to do with the upgrading of the high beams to HID and/or Xeon bulbs.

Unfortunately I would do the search for you but I am a little pressed for time.

Another fly in your ointment... Since you all know that I have numerous headlight housings... US + European... and have taken them all apart, I should report the following:

-US Spec housings taken apart with clears inserted: one notch
-European Spec housings: two notches

I will check to see if there are any horizontal adjustments for right/left beam convergence...

Here I think this is the thread I was referring to. I think the photos are at the middle and the end of the thread.

I hope this helps.

RT is right, fellas.

If you get close to a wall, say 15 feet from it, the beam pattern will look like this for US cars:
____________________
_____/

However, further out, I notice on my car that as the beams spread a bit due to distance, they look like this:
____________________
_____/********/

Note: Move the top line over to make the notch we see; the board's not formatting it right when I post it.

The part where I filled in with the asterisks is still lit up, but the brightness of the ******** area is a dimmer than the rest of the beam pattern, thus the second "notch."

So sometimes you'll see two, sometimes you'll see one. Try it out.

This topic is one that had to be born.

I have 3-4 steps up as you go left to right. e.g.
......................................... _________________/
.................... ____________/
___________/

I hope this translates correctly when I send it.

I have one step-down in the middle with the left side being slightly lower. I assumed it was set up this way so that we wouldn't be blinding oncoming traffic.

Thanks for the link Rowland, but the pictures he has taken are with the car too close to the wall, hence no cut is visible, they just show the varying brightness of different bulbs.

Now whilst I agree with what RT is saying, I am talking about looking at the pattern at approx 15ft and this would have been the same distance as before they did the work. Previously I only had one notch, now I have two, this is the second time they have had to adjust my lights and on the previous occasion they ended up with one notch, so it must be possible.

Whataride - that is exactly the reason for the notch, hence here in the UK the right side is lower.

Another question for you then is why are Bill L's lights notched 3 or 4 times. Surely this should be adjusted and isn't dependent on distance?

Thanks for all your help folks.

I've checked my notches, and I have 3, as shown in my post. But, it seems that the somebody said the lights can be adjusted. Can we do it ourselves? What about shop manuals. Anybody out there that has some ideas about shop manuals and other books of interest? I suppose we can buy them from Honda. I'm going to ask about shop manuals & other references on some other threads too.
