Anyone have any leads on dealers in the West/Southwest that aren't trying rob people blind on the S2000? I am in the Los Angeles area and after visiting 5 dealers the best I could find was MSRP + $3500. I am willing to go anywhere in the Washington/Oregon/Cal/Utah/Arizona/Nevada area for a yellow or red 2001 at MSRP.

Any help out there?

Check the group buys forum. There are usually some posted there.

most dealers in Az are price gouging. The local dealer Honda of Tempe has a 2001 yellow but they want $45,000 for it. Yeah right.

Needastook, check out the "Aluminum" thread. Someone in Illinois paid 31,500 for a new silver 2001. I know that's outside of your immediate area but if you can save a grand or two it maybe worth it.

You probably just need to call around more. I called around for a few days and most dealers were asking between 38-42. Finally I started going in and negotiating this last Friday and Saturday. Friday evening I go to San Leandro Honda, talk them down to about MSRP for the car but several options that I don't necessarily want that push the car up to ~36000... While I am negotiating someone else buys the car..

The next morning I go to Oakland Honda... basically the same thing happened, while we were talking price someone else buys the car...

Then I go to SF Honda... take a test drive.. but they would not budge below 37500 for the car with no options... Way to high...

Finally talked to Winter Honda in Pittsburg CA, they agreed over the phone to 34,500 with no options... This ended up being close enough for me.

San Leandro Honda did offer me $500 over MSRP for a car that they expected in about 3 weeks, but I did not trust them to get a car for me in 3 weeks.

If I had been more patient I probably could have gotten a better deal, but I only have so much time to spend on shopping and I was getting discourage by having the cars purchased while I was negotiating for them. Certainly the dealers did not have much incentive to sell it at MSRP.

Mel Rapton in Sacramento had 1 car that had been around for 3 weeks they were selling it at MSRP, but with every option they could think of added on.

Good Luck!

Well, I have a lead on a 2001 red at MSRP but with a bunch of silly options on it. Car Cover, Alarm, Titanium Shift Knob, CD Changer, Black Chrome Kit, and Cargo net. Car plus options for $35,744. How does that sound to stook owners out there?

NeedAStook:

What's a black chrome kit? I can't visualize any chrome on the car to blacken.

Tox: black chrome kit is just the honda emblems w/ blacked around the H.. alot of memebers have that.. check out the photo gallery.

NeedaStook: i don't feel like searching for the thread but HondGal(Shelly) started up the list of dealers selling for MSRP on S2ki.com so go there and see if there are any within your distance.

All the MSRP dealers are back East. The closest one to LA is in Ohio! In sunny LA, Dealers don't feel very obligated to work with you on price for a convertible. Although if I can work this deal out, that might be changing.

Hey I will sell you mine for 30,500.
Its red has about 3500 miles on it and I will drive it to you in Cali...
or split shipping with you. Either way you get a perfect car for at least 4K less than you have negotioated already...
