Help!! Accidentally redlined my car cold;(!
I was taking a chick for a ride, just a friend, but who doesn't like to show off in there S?? So about 2 minutes after i started her, i wasn't thinking and tried to take her to the top. At about 6.5k she cut off and i heard a horrible screeching? sound. I've never done this before in 3k miles, but have i done any perminent damage?? Plz help!

My understanding is the rev limiter kicks in because it has not hit the proper operating temperature. Trust me, we have all done. Most more than once. I don't believe there's any thing to be concerned about. It's a natural safety item. And, it should not have anything to do with oil consumption.
When the engine is still cold (less than 3 bars on the gauge) the ecu sets the rev limiter at 7krpms.
Don't worry you didn't hurt your car. It's there to protect the car. Just don't do it too much
actually it lets you vtec at something like 2.5 bars, its good to wait till you have 3 bar. the ECU also seems to rev limit you in the first 30-60 seconds when the engine is warm (3 bars). I stalled once in the pit lane of the track, started the car and tried to speed off. It limited me there too. Even tho I have just been on the track for 10 minutes and was plenty warm.

Rev limiter. Take your car to the track and you get used to that sound
Safety mechanism when shifting to a higher gear.
No rev limiter when downshifting though!
Then if you downshifted badly, you get the Engine Check Light if you are lucky, or fry the engine or transmission if you are not. Just be very careful on the downshifts when going all out (memorize the max speeds for each gear).

What I thinks he is saying is "it's OK to drive fast up the gears as it will let you, providing everything is warmed up;; however, if you screw up downshifting you will be very sorry ...... I agree.

There is also a time limiter set below vtec as well. If you stall at a light, start and then punch it (even when hot) the limiter will kick in. I'm not sure what the exact time limit is 5-6 seconds I guess. It might be oil pressure activated, not sure. VTEC is powered by the oil pump. The limiter is designed to not let you VTEC until the correct oil temp and pressure are reached. The "3 bars" is water temp, not oil temp so it's not 100% accurate but serves as a useful guide.
