HELP! AEM V2 Problems
Hey guys, need your help. I bought an AEM V2 intake about 2 months ago. Install went fine, this is my 2nd s2k so no big. I used to have an Injen 1 piece CAI. Anyways, recently...I've been bogging a lot because of the rain. Anyone else have this problem? It seems like because the suction is so great, it is sucking a little bit of water. I thought the cone had come off or something was loose, so I took off the bumper and examined EVERYTHING! It was all fine, but I'm scared of hydrolock. It feels like there is a grocery bag over the cone or something. I just don't feel the gain that I should in the rain and the engine won't kick went my foot's on the gas. Any help would be appreciated. Anyone else feel similar? Thanks in advance. I guess I'll be moving to comptech soon...... Brandon
not good man, be sure to check your compression when you have the chance. IF you're really worried I would just change it back to the air box with breather gutted mods or get a bypass valve on AEM which negates the gains though.
I've had the V2 on for about 6 months w/out a problem. I did not cut the
underbody to get more air though. I simply cut the front grill inserts and
bought some screens to cover the holes to get more air.
The bypass is thought to lose hp. Some have put some plastic or metal
over the air filter b/c it does point up and water can drip in from above
during hard rain.
During rain, as long as you haven't cut out too much plastic from underneath
the filter and you aren't going into big puddles, you shouldn't be having these types of problems. Make sure all your connections are still secure and hoses hooked up. Don't know if this is of any help, but we've had a bunch of rain
in Chicago this year and I haven't had any problems.

Hmm, that is an interesting point with the hard rain though. Because, it's never a problem during the rain, it's always after it's been sitting in the rain. I wonder if the rain is dripping in from above and that's what is causing the problem. I guess I need to look into another intake so I don't have to worry about this crap anymore. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. Brandon
It might have something to do with all the moisture, heat and rain together causes our cars to have a slight bogging down in the rain. I think that is what you are experiencing. It's a combination of 90 degree weather and moisture in the air that the CAI doesn't work well in. A CAI works best in cold weather. Because it want's cold air to come in. That is why the tubing goes away from the engine to keep hot air away. But hot air plus a hot engine won't function well.

have same intake, had same problem.
this is the fix:
1). go to sams club, get large biscotti container ( kind of square looking ). cut in half from top to bottom ( carefull cutting through the threaded part you could easily cut youself
)
2). use cut container as an "umbrella" for your filter, the diamiter of the jar top is about the same as the neck of the aem v2 intake. I used a lage hose clamp to hold it on, but a couple of lage zip tyes will work also.
3). plug the 2 drain holes with something ( rubber plug or silicone ). these drain holes are on the passenger side, just inside the engine bay, right above your new aem filter. there is a rain ledge that runs fore and aft the whole lenght of the engine bay. these holes drip water right on top of your filter after a rain or a wash job.
this will absolutly fix your problem and let you keep that awsome intake ( great sound and easy oil changes)

Even if the umbrella works, I would check your hoses to see if they're not connected properly. Xviper did a good pic detail on how the hoses are suppose to be connected. The directions that come with the V2 suck.
