Help With Convex Mirror Installation
I just received my Muz convex LH mirror, but I'm having trouble getting the old mirror off. I don't want to break anything. Is there a trick to this?
Sorry, can't help you there but where did you get it? link? How much was it? Thanks
John

Getting mine off was scary. There was some type of adhesive on the back of the original mirror and it took a LOT more pressure than I thought it would. Good luck with it.
jlvtx1800,
You can order them from Muz. I believe the price was around $35.

I installed the convex left mirror more than a year ago and I love it. Definitely an important upgrade for all owner, in my opinion. The install was easy, but I have encountered one problem since then:
I adjust the mirror the way I like it, and it stays there while permanently while I'm only driving around town or for brief trips on the freeways. However, when driving extended trips at highway speeds (70-80mph), the mirror seems to slowly creep upward over time. I reach out the window and angle it downwards with my fingers, but about 20-25 minutes later, it's rotated upward again. I'm not sure how to correct it, or if I should bother.
The moral of this story might be make sure you use plenty of that mirror adhesive off the old mirror when you install the new one. Perhaps that will help it stay down.
Anyone else noticed this?

I suggest you do this when it's hot out or after you have heated up the mirror to soften up the gooey adhesive (which you need to scrape off and re-use). If it's too cool, it will indeed POP and scare the crap out of you. In fact, that POP may be one of the retainer prongs on one of the remote actuator cables that move your power mirror.
When warm, move the mirror to the highest "UP" position. Grab the bottom edge and slowy and carefully begine to pull. The adhesive should have a little give if it's warm enough. When you can get the bottom of the mirror away from the housing to see under it, then you can push up on the mirror to detach it from the upper loops where the mirror is hooked. If you are worried about dropping the glass, have a basket under the mirror just in case.

I wouldn't pull any harder. As suggested, have you allowed the car to get heated up in the sun or tried using a hair dryer to get the adhesive softened up?
Have you "raised" the mirror as high as it will go. You might be able to then pull on the bottom of the mirror and see where you need to push a small bladed screwdriver between the glass and the mounting plate to wedge the glass away.
If you pull too hard, you could possibly break the little plastic "grabbers" on the ends of the actuator cables.

It won't break. i also scrape some of that adhesive and put it on the new mirror works great no complaints
